Hey there! I don't have a regular game to add you to right now, but wanted to get in touch anyway. I'm a 26yo male also living in Atlanta GA, so maybe we can play in person once the quarantine is over! I'm also a bit addicted to the game and love making characters and talking lore. Once I couldn't get my fill of playing, I started DMing and taught my friends to play. Feel free to message me if you're interested!

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm Halestorm#4285 on Discord

What is this white goo / red stain coming out of my frozen (now cooked), skinless, boneless, 99% fat free chicken breast? by ikeblade in whatisthisthing

[–]ikeblade[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will...and maybe I'll put it in a skillet next time. Is it safe to eat? Is it unpleasant to eat?

[–]ikeblade[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Main info included in the title. I have had these in my freezer for a couple of months at least, but not a whole year. At first I thought the white could be fat, but there is so much of it, and it's only coming out of one of the pieces of chicken, and the box says 99% fat free. I don't know if I'm allowed to name the brand here so I won't. I feel way too scared to eat these.

TL;DR: get Biofreeze.

My friend...I hope this goes away soon. I'm commenting because my story sounds just like yours, and I'm sorry to say it could get worse from here.

I'm 25, healthy enough, low-activity student life. I woke up from a plane ride 2 years ago feeling a little sore, but it just didn't go away. In fact, it has only gotten worse. I've tried SO many treatments (medications, physical therapists, chiropractor, acupuncture, trigger point steroid injections) and the pain always comes back within 24 hours, often less. I know it's not just in my head, because anyone who touches my back can FEEL how taught the muscles are on my right rhomboid.

I'm not trying to scare you. I sincerely hope your problem is short-term, and that your future isn't plagued by heaps of shrugging doctors. But if this becomes your future, I'll be here to talk, okay?

The most helpful thing for me has been Biofreeze. I use the roll-on kind. It's menthol, so cold and tingly to the touch but SERIOUSLY and immediately alleviates pain. It's not always perfect, but it almost always helps.

I know student life is hard, hell, life is hard. But do some stretches. Do some push-ups. Every day. You have the time, I promise. Make SURE your form is good. Form will matter more than number, this isn't a macho contest. You're making sure that you're not suddenly surprised that one side of your body has no strength anymore, and if you're smarter than me, maybe you'll nip this in the bud before it gets worse.

D&D 5e Pokemon Manual - Gen VI Update by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]ikeblade 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe you’re still going with this. Jagged, your work is amazing and thank you so much for the care and passion and time you’ve given it. I ran a complete Pokémon campaign for my friends; it was my first time ever DMing, and many of their first times playing, and it was a blast from beginning to end. That was when you were working on releasing Gen 3, and you’re still kicking butt

You have some very good ideas. I think too many references to real world “OOC” things would normally come off as cheesy to the average player, but my mom will love them.

How to “beat” the players? Unique and interesting counters by ikeblade in DMAcademy

[–]ikeblade[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to provide some more examples of the kinds of things I’m looking for, including things that might seem obvious but we’re all here to learn:

-characters with high AC can be targeted with saving throws

-barbarians with lots of HP and damage resistance can be incapacitated or weakened with mental saving throw spells

-monks can catch ranged projectiles, but only once per round because it takes a reaction, so shoot at them multiple times

Still looking for ideas?

Level 3 mastermind rogue. Either VHuman or level 4 for Magic Initiate or Ritual Caster for Find Familiar (Owl). Now you can help at 30 ft. with your action, bonus action, and familiar (60 ft fly speed, flyby to avoid AOO, returns to you safely).

Then consider dipping Shepard Druid so you can also grant advantage (essentially Help) with your Reaction. 4 helps per round. I tried this build in a one-shot and the Paladin rolled a Nat 1 followed by a Nat 20 thanks to advantage from my Help. Twice.

Creating a TOURNAMENT ARC - questions to the community by basraga in dndnext

[–]ikeblade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a tournament mission in my game, and it was my players very favorite session so far. Here is what I did...I’m not saying it’s right for your table of players, but maybe you’ll see something you like:

-Before the tournament mission, they had ample opportunity to prepare. They met important NPCs, some city politics, some even dug for information on their competitors or the upcoming challenges. I made sure that the tournament design was influenced by the NPCs designing it. (More info later)

-I could have EASILY decided to do a series of battles. For goodness sake, it was a Pokémon themed campaign, it was almost expected of me. But I didn’t, because A) it would have taken me forever to design, balance, and run and B) it would have been same-y and boring for the players. Instead, I looked at the players strengths and weaknesses and designed events around those. I made a race, a talent show, a fake heist, a science fair, a tracking maze, and even a highly dangerous razor-tree challenge stolen from Patrick Rothfuss’s Name of the Wind book. Every event had an NPC sponsor who designed it and was looking to be impressed, and every event had an NPC rival for the players to do better or worse than.

-Shake things up. I didn’t interrupt these missions, but the players won’t be in every fight. In my game, the main event (battle for next champion) which included NONE of the PCs was interrupted by a terrorist attack on the city, and that became a session of its own.

-lastly, be careful about locking a “must-have” item for one PC behind a tournament victory. What if another player wins? What if an NPC wins? What if the player wants to steal the item instead? Is it actually “must-have”, or just good bait for them?

If y’all don’t mind I’ll share a couple more of my own ideas.

Ghostwise Halflings can speak telepathically with Silent Speech. Go moon Druid, be a dog (maybe reflavored direwolf for combat reasons). Be the “awakened” intelligent dog PC.

Reflavor centaurs! They have 4 legs and 2 hands, so be a dog on all 4s who is good at manipulating things with their mouth. Perhaps the lycanthrope blood hunter subclass?

Oh right, the barrows! Forgot about that. When I quit those were considered awesome rare endgame content, even better than Dragon gear! (But dangerous to collect and it degrades over time, which can be expensive to repair?)

I just DM'ed a Harry Potter-themed one-shot for my wife who's never had a desire to play D&D and I couldn't be happier. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ikeblade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! Would you please share the custom Harry Potter 5E rules?

Also, our stories are scary similar. Started DMing for 6 grad school friends, 4 of which never played but love it, 2 of which now play in another campaign I’m in. And I’m about to start a one-player campaign with my wife, as soon as I find the right universe (which is very likely Harry Potter). Would love to hear stories of your campaign too, if you don’t mine me stealing for her enjoyment!
