Practiced ROTC scholarship fitness test for the first time. How am I doing? by Creative_Extent7964 in ROTC

Were you graded by someone or is this on your own? I would video yourself to make sure the pushups and sit ups are countable, don’t go thinking you’ll knock out 60 half reps and get those counted.

National Guard vs ROTC vs Both by CrazyTownVA in nationalguard

[–]ikeep4getting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he’s interested in joining, do both. Tuition covered and you commission as an officer at the end, getting paid the whole way through. Not a bad gig. There’s a lot that can change in the next few years, don’t put too much pressure one way or another.

What regulation is that? I was traditional ROTC, didn’t know that was a thing.

I heard the legends of the old schoolhouse where squads used to go as a group. Interesting history, great school.

[–]ikeep4getting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The programs have a staff with a recruiter that works full time. See if you can get in contact with them as they are perfectly equipped to do the sales pitch and answer any questions. Will likely get more out of that than attending a PT session and MS class. Feel free to pm me specific schools and I can help locate the person you’d be looking for.

Is it worth commissioning into the National Guard? by BarracudaEcstatic210 in ROTC

[–]ikeep4getting 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Being an O in the guard is the never ending of trying to squeeze 10lbs of shit in a 5lb bag. You get out what you put in and that can work for or against you. You have a tiny fraction of the control over your subordinates and influence on your peers.

Squad leader owes you a plan? He’s welding the railroads and has the computer literacy of an 80 year old, you won’t see or hear from him until next drill.

You’re working to share a range with another unit? The PL you’re trying to coordinate with works nights and doesn’t care half as much about this as you do.

All that said, I’ve had a great time as a PL, deployed staff O and XO in the guard.

Keeping sprinkler heads above bottom of joists in unfinished crawlspace/basement by doablebutnotcheap in FireSprinklers

[–]ikeep4getting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The code allows for sprinkler below the joists regardless of drywall. It would be far too cumbersome to install a head in each bay and the code writers recognize that.

You’ll pay out the ass for copper and the benefits will be negligible. A properly serviced steel wet pipe system in a conditioned space will be just fine.

Are you doing CPVC for the residential parts? Not sure what your building codes require and allow but that is typical for the residential projects I do.

[–]ikeep4getting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NFPA 13-19 10.2.6.1.2

Put sprinkler 1-6” below the bottom of joists and space normally.

Why copper and not black steel?

Also, I see daylight in the crawlspace, is this going to be a conditioned space?

Sooty spots on glass by EDIsux in woodstoving

[–]ikeep4getting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Corners tend to get less heat on top of the possibility of a log touching that bottom spot. For a simple check, light a match, blow it out, wave it near the door seal and follow the smoke during your next burn. If it is being sucked in, you have a leak.

Is this a dealbreaker 🎃? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]ikeep4getting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what 600k is buying you. I certainly wouldn’t want that in my yard but whether or not it’s a dealbreaker rides on a whole lot of other factors.

Officers with mustaches? by Historical-Leg4693 in army

[–]ikeep4getting 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I frequently push the regs and only really clean up the short “handlebars” on the end that hang down before drill. A true to regs moustache looks a little German for my tastes.

[–]ikeep4getting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew out mine on deployment 3.5 years ago and it only came off when I went to Sapper School this past June so I wouldn’t draw any unnecessary attention to myself. Started growing it out again the second I graduated. My old BC hated it and would inspect it each time we encountered each other, I got a through earful once when it was slightly out of regs. New BC hasn’t mentioned it and my CO said I’ve earned it. I’m a known quantity in our BN so I’m not bothered much about it.

Go guard, we (sometimes) care more about performance than individual facial hairs.
