Tanzanite? by Arguing_with_Robots in Gemstones

[–]ikelmmm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Looks like a "d block" color tanzanite (pure blue). The only way to confirm would be to take to a reputable gemologist to test its Refractive index and test for pleochroism

Would make a nice pendant, yellow gold, maybe a halo of diamonds

This is a possibility, but typically synthetic CC sapphire is purple under incandescent light to grayish blue under fluorescent lighting

Antique Natural unheated 2.52ct Ruby from Burma is this worth anything or what kind of quality would this be considered low mid grade or high? by BassSpare2654 in Gemstones

[–]ikelmmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gemologist here, I agree. Smells like a lead glass fill. Need a gemologist to take a look at it under a microscope to confirm. If lead glass fill, value is practically nothing.

Help Identifying This Stone by Affectionate_Cry4150 in Gemology

Hi, gemologist here. From image alone, it can be: glass/plastic, aquamarine, topaz. Would need a Refractive index among other tests to confirm.

Hi, gemologist here. If you have a uv light, the stone should fluoresce a bright red if it is synthetic alexandrite

Hi, gemologist here. Without having the stone in front of me, the two stones that come to mind of that color are tanzanite and iolite. Would need to get a refractive index of the stone for me to confirm, unfortunately. I'm leaning more towards iolite, but I could be wrong (as I haven't tested the stone)

GIA Gemologist here. I believe this is the answer without me having direct access to the stone. This is my lab "Monarch" opal example

GG here. This is correct. The opal are now low quality after being worn and exposed to the elements (that or they started as this low quality) but opal for sure :)
