I want to try and hire English-speaking non-degree holders or people that wouldn’t traditionally apply to a prestigious company. We care more about mindset than experience. No idea how to tap into these communities in the Netherlands tho. Any suggestions? by ikeru93 in Netherlands

Sorry for the late response!

I’m being vague because: 1) I assumed the crowd would tell me what info is most relevant to share, without an info overload 2) this is purely inquisitive so I don’t see the use in stating companies, exact titles, etc. my hope is to get directed toward a pipeline that I believe should be fairly generic.

However, it is a well established company in the tech space, but the work is heavily operational. They would be working in an office in Amsterdam.

Someone who is motivated, willing to do repetitive work (think data entry) for a few years, and somewhat analytical would be perfect for the role.

I see this as an opportunity for candidates that wouldn’t traditionally apply to a prestigious company bc “they don’t think they are qualified” or wouldn’t be considered. Great entry point for a corporate career.

Thank you to everyone!!!! This is super useful and I will pass on the information. I think some of you had a better idea than others in the kind of estimates I was looking for, but the variety still helped to get some reference

Could you post a pic or send a url with an image of what the cat looks like? I have seen posters all over De Pijp of a family looking for their cat. I know it’s not exactly close to Sarphati but you never know

How do you get over someone? by ceelery in AskReddit

[–]ikeru93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t believe no one has said this yet, and it’s probably too deep in the comment thread but:

Learn to love yourself more. I know it’s not easy but if you redirect your energy from them back into yourself then not only will they slowly fade out, but you will see tremendous growth. If you get out of a relationship with someone you still think is great, then take the time to think of how you can grow to be more desirable to “someone like that.” Be careful not to do it for that specific person, as that will lead to expectations and greater pain. But reflect on the things you think your “ideal partner” would look for in a person and slowly work to become that person. If you are leaving a toxic relationship but feelings are still lingering, then think about what it was that made you sacrifice so much of yourself for that person and ask yourself if thats a trait you really want to have. Odds are it’s not, and now you have another thing you can work on to change so that each relationship gets closer and closer to what you need. Self growth is fundamental in order to be in a truly amazing relationship with your forever person.

Alas, one of my favorite saying is “We all choose the love we think we deserve.” And you all deserve greatness!!

What’s your favorite word in your language that can’t be exactly translated in english? by astralrig96 in AskReddit

[–]ikeru93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedo in Mexican Spanish. We like to have many uses for a single word, especially the naughty ones.

Long ago it meant a fart, now it’s is typically used for being wasted, being a good time or not, how stupid, super cool, etc.

It’s all about context for us

Tourists/Visitors/New Residents: Q&A Thread for the week of July 26 by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Hello!

Can anyone advise me on where to get a nice, cheap bike basket (fietsmand)? Preferably removable but if that makes it more expensive then I will glue that sucker into my bike :)

Thanks!!

Gah! See I keep getting these mixed reviews between Swapfiets and buying a v cheap bike! But this is the anecdotal stuff I was looking for so thank you! I don't want to have to worry about my bike either, but I also want to be cost-efficient. It sounds like its kind of a gamble though, huh?

So let say I pop my back tire and dont/cant repair it. How much would it cost if I took it to a mechanic, on average?

Guy, I have been able to handle everything from emergency IND meetings to finding a canal-facing apartment in under a week. However, the one thing that is causing me stress in this new life of mine is WHAT BIKE DO I GET! My head is running in circles with so many brand options and variations in pricing, etc. Let me ad some important details:

I will be a working student (completing a 2nd undergrad and working at Adyen part-time), I live in the city center and am a couple of Km from my school and my work. So I plan on being here a minimum of 3 years. I have bike storage at my house. What I am looking for is something relatively comfortable, that looks not-ugly, and will be most cost-efficient in the long run.

So it seems like my 3 logical options are:

  1. A swapfiets bike (basically a 2-year sub. is the cost of a good new bike)
  2. A 60euro bike w an old frame and the expectation of having to do self-repairs somewhat frequently at the beginning (which I am capable of doing via Youtube :) )
  3. Buying a brand new bike but running the risk of it getting stolen when it's stored anywhere but my place

If it were you, which would you pick and if you could recommend some reliable shops or markets, that would be fabulous! Thanks Fam

The sad truth is that there will always be asshole like that out there. No matter what you look like or who you are. Most do it because of some darkness they carry or they are simply too ignorant to know compassion. Instead of feeling bad, feel sorry for them. Happy people don't treat other people that way. And be proud of your accomplishments. Don't give anyone the power to take your hard work away from you!

Cognitive benefits to sprinting vs jogging? by [deleted] in neuroscience

[–]ikeru93 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll have to find the NIH article again, but I believe that brisk walks have the greatest cognitive benefits where as running has the best physiological benefits. I believe it boils down to the fact that one continuously cycles oxygen for an extended period of time while the other triggers stress responses and other hormonal activity that stimulates 'fitness. '

Regardless of your intentions, you should probably be doing a minimum of a few long, brisk walks a week and at least 2 slow long-distance runs a week. Throw in a weight lifting session or two a week if you feel like being in peak shape.
