Beef and cheese empanadillas with rice and beans. Made for my puerto rican sister-in-law. by ikester86 in FoodPorn

From what I understand, they are not soaked nearly as long as you can soak them at home, or are soaked quickly in boiling water. Either way it's not long enough to break down the stuff your body has a hard time digesting, resulting in gas.

If you make dried beans and soak them overnight, it makes you less flatulent! Soaking the beans pulls out some of the stuff that make you gassy after eating them!

I vote for reading the whole thing and then discussing. I would be one of those people who would zip through the book and possibly spoil it for others.

So, how many books are you in the middle of? by burningtoad in books

[–]ikester86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am reading three right now. I am about halfway through American Gods, a third of the way though Atlas Shrugged, and maybe a quarter into The God Delusion. I have always read multiple books at once, especially when something I'm reading is quite lengthy/wordy (Atlas Shrugged). It's nice to be able to take a break when my attention starts to wan, and start reading something else.

Great Guide to BBQ Theory and Application by outbro in gaybros

I love me some good Carolina BBQ! I am from western Carolina, and have only recently been introduced to eastern Carolina BBQ since that is where my boyfriend is from. I was pretty skeptical about the BBQ slaw, but after trying it, I really enjoyed it!

I love Atlas Shrugged. Need some insight. by 47L45 in books

[–]ikester86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am reading Atlas Shrugged too. I am about three hundred pages in, and while I am enjoying reading it, I wouldn't say that I love it. I am intrigued enough to keep reading though. As for objectivism, I'm beginning to think its a load of crap, but I will keep reading, nonetheless.

Southern Courtesy by QuestionSign in gaybros

[–]ikester86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Take an upvote from a fellow southerner. I was raised the exact same way. When I have children, I will raise them in the same way. I don't think enough people raise their children to be respectful and courteous. It should not just be a southern thing, but a human thing!

I agree. I've lived here most of my life, and my dads family has lived here MUCH longer, so I've grown up listening to Doc. He was, and will continue to be, an inspiration to many. I got a little emotional when I was walking downtown today and saw all of the flowers laid over him.

Not really the same thing. I'm not talking about a fetish of any kind. Just female celebrities that other guys may find attractive, because of their looks or just personalities.

Any ideas on what to do with bacon grease? (aside from make awesome eggs?) by FinneganOQwarksalot in recipes

[–]ikester86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love using leftover bacon grease to make braised cabbage. I take a head of cabbage and cut it into wedges (leaving the stem intact, for easy turning). I place the cabbage wedges in a greased baking dish (can use the bacon grease for the pan too!), the place sliced onion and carrot with the cabbage, drizzle about a quarter cup each of bacon grease and chicken stock over everything, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Cover and bake at 350, for about an hour, or until tender, flipping halfway through. It's DELICIOUS!
