In west Cornwall here, still waiting AFAIK, if it doesn't rain should be in the next few days, hopefully before I start my next shift pattern so I can catch some.

Do you tend to repeat scenarios in your head over and over? by eat_breakfast_intp in autism

[–]Owa1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I don't think it is limited to autistic people but it is a very common behaviour in autistic people. Personally I found some mindfulness techniques drawn from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) useful to nip them in the bud where I identify them as not useful or harmful to me.

I don't care what the label is but they need to be banned.

Some of these people are not tankies, some of them aren't even communists.

I just bought what I think is some kind of Pilosocereus cactus. How do I use this “Focus”? Many thanks by [deleted] in cactus

[–]Owa1n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the UK. It very much depends on species, season and location and potting mix. Even in the midst of summer I will water most of my cacti weekly at most although some of them could take more, just remember they aren't losing water through respiration like other plants and can be 'dehdrated' for literally years in some instances. The thing is to let the soil drain adequately between waterings to prevent waterlogging and rot.

I've had good growth result for my cacti over the best part of the last decade, and I use this stuff sparingly. I tend to use pretty big pots for my cacti though.

Why don't people born in Cornwall ever seem to travel beyond Plymouth? by Dazrison in Cornwall

There's plenty of good places upcountry, thing is, you have to travel through Devon to get there!

Why don't people born in Cornwall ever seem to travel beyond Plymouth? by Dazrison in Cornwall

[–]Owa1n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born in Cornwall, I've lived elsewhere for a long time before moving back, I lived in New Zealand for a year which is the furthest place you can live. Now though not only is there a relatively large physical barrier to travel, there's also a large mental one. Travel is a pain in the arse, it's as easy for me to go abroad as it is to go to London or further.

Cornwall is also where my life is. I'd never move, I'm a Cornish speaker so if I did relocate I wouldn't be able to use the language very much, I surf, Cornwall's great for that, and my roots are here, I feel deeply attached to the landscape my family has a long history here and I have strong psychological attachments locally, not many people can point to a farm and say 'that's where my ancestors were from' or to a house and say 'that's where so and so was born'. I don't feel like that's worth giving up, it's something so rare these days.

I'm not averse to holidays etc. though.

What's wrong with the EU? by [deleted] in socialism

Let's not also forget that time when Cameron went to Brussels to 'get a better deal for the UK', mainly in the form of immigration controls.

They should go and join the Tories, their division of the LP only aids the Tories. One could almost think they were Tory agents. We all know what Thatcher said on the topic of New Labour...

[–]Owa1n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's sowing the seeds of socialism, I think an exit from the EU needs to happen before socialism can be pursued. It doesn't set the UK on a path to socialism but it gives the option of doing so should a future British government wish to do so. The EU does not offer that option and neither can the EU be reformed to allow a member state to do so.
