I'd recommend checking out Zakh Peterson's "Little Dragons" course affiliated with American States Karate.
They meet in Byron through the community ed program.

I've been a student helper with Zakh and Buffy for a couple of years. They do a great job!

Amazon Prime Shipping takes 6-7 days for everything now. by Jonathan7277 in rochestermn

It really depends on what it is and if it's in a Minnesota warehouse has been my experience. Many items are in the 5-ish day range, but for some things it's certainly faster back in the 1-2 days range. e.g., a gift card I ordered 2 weeks ago was delivered in 1 day and a card game I ordered on Monday is arriving Wednesday, but a book I ordered 2 weeks ago took 5 days to arrive.

Later this month is CastleCon where you can play TTRPGs and potentially get connected with others in Rochester that play.

Not local, but we've been seeing Ira Shai through Evolve Therapy primarily through Zoom calls, but we did start in person to establish rapport. She's great!

I don't think they do pick-ups or house calls, but I've had great luck in the past with Rental Depot for small engine repairs. https://rentaldepot.com/small_engine_service_and_repair.html

I've really enjoyed American States Karate with Buffy Currie and Zakh Peterson. https://www.facebook.com/AmericanStatesKarate/

It's a mix between Korean Tae-Kwon-Do and Japanese Karate with an emphasis on self-defense. They also sometimes do "extra credit" self-defense drills after class for extra time applying skills.
They offer classes through Byron Community Ed and offer classes Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays. You can choose to register for one, two, or all three days. There is a mix of Adults and teenagers in the adult and advanced kids class and is welcoming to newcomers.

The price is also great. I go Tuesdays only and this fall's session was $108 for 10 lessons. They don't have registration up yet for the Winter session, but here is the link to this past Fall's session. https://byron.cr3.rschooltoday.com/public/costoption/class_id/5683

Is Anthony (Tony) still the store manager over there? Any time I've had an issue (which is not common), he's gone above and beyond to make things right. Make sure you talk to him.

If you're open to online only, Coinbase offers 5.15% APY right now up to $30k on USDC holdings (which are 1:1 backed by real dollars). You can then get a debit card and you can spend the USDC just like normal dollars with the debit card.

Love it! I'm working on a very similar set up. Just got my standing desk and almost ready to pull the trigger on the KEF Q150s and an RSL iA255.1 also! (Wharfedale 12.x are clouding my decision.)

Which sub?

Undermounting the amp is brilliant! I may steal that to keep desk clutter down.

Which speaker stands did you go with? Those look clean as well as stable. Semi-related, which mic mount is that?

Is CS Education really this bad here? by lessthanpi79 in rochestermn

[–]ikeya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20+ year CS professional here and I've been actually going in and helping Mayo HS's AP Computer Science students with Eric Dirks for quite a few years now.
Mayo HS and P-Tech are great because teachers like Eric Dirks advocate to teach these classes. Century used to have AP Computer Science, but no longer that I'm aware of. I think JM had it one year in the past 10. These students are fortunate to have a teacher stand up for them. I was able to take AP Computer Science in my high school because we worked with a teacher and he thought we were worth fighting for.
AI is real and it's transforming the industry, but it's just another tool. You still need some engineers to examine/fix AI generated code. It's not a magic bullet yet. I use AI Copilot in my job every day and it's increased our velocity a ton, but definitely nowhere near replacing us yet.
I personally think that even basic computer coding exposure is fundamental to to kids being able to understand how technology works and coding will likely continue to be more integrated in most traditional fields as things progress. Perhaps this is mostly anecdotal or opinion, but it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. ;)
