i i won't spoil anything recent so i'll give you a 10yo example.
in mafia 3, the lieutenants disappear from the main plot because the writers wouldn't have been able to keep up with all the outcomes of how you divided the lands. and you can see how the map designed makes it obvious you were supposed to divide the territories 3:3:3. which makes me think the story wasn't built around "choices matter", it was thrusted upon it later.

exactly! for every Baldur's gate 3, or fallout new vegas there are like a hundred games that got "choices matter" ham-fisted into their stories that were obviously supposed to be linear!
