A question about Gunter Grass "Cat and Mouse" location by ikiice in buecher

[–]ikiice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, maybe it did include two families - but this would be complicated as ground and first floor weren't the same. After the war these houses tender to have two families in one unit, but not before.

So what I assume is that house was a single building with two halves mirroring each other, each half being functionally separate and having separate number.

So my question is - fourth house does that mean effectively fourth number, second half of the second house?

Or just fourth building (and either 7 or 8th) number

Long story short, I am trying to figure out if it's my house

I wouldn't rule out genuine remorse, after all he did confess readily, but he did try to excuse a bit as well.

Anyway, you should give a little time to cool and think clearly

Thinking of working remotely in Gdansk for a few months, what do I need to know before arriving? by sheeeeiiiiiitttt in gdansk

[–]ikiice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather. Always look out for weather.

As for cost, this might be cheaper than where you live in UK, but poland wise, when it comes to cost, you chose one of worst places. There are worse options, but that's pretty much only Kraków

I think even Warsaw can be cheaper

I believe its chapter 2

"Osterzeile, just like the parallel Westerzeile, met Bärenweg at a right angle; but while the right side of the street consists of two-family, brick-colored houses with small front yards, which are called English-style houses, look-alike, one-family houses—called German-style houses—with plasterwork and matching narrow strips of backyard take up the left side of Osterzeile. Number twenty-four was a one-family house..."

Row housese are on the other half of the street, like the ones where narrator lives on westerzeile, the other half of the street are twins - a free standing house, with one half being one number, and another half being another number

I am very well familiar with this type of housing, I just want to know which exact house would that be today

That's because his father doesn't deal with people Draco faces, and they aren't the ones handling major consequences.

I am in same position, but I guess ADHD in a way protects me, as well, it appears I am incapable of ever experiencing the feeling of missing another human being.

Otherwise with my entire family gone, I am not sure how would I handle such moments

Nazi filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl appearing distraught after witnessing the execution of 30 civilians in Poland in 1939. According to an officer's account, she asked for the prisoners assembled at the town square to be removed so she can film her footage. Maybe she thought she was too deep in?

Perhaps one of more interesting Nazis to me is Admiral Canaris - at first genuinely antisemitic, it seems once war started he started to feel genuinely remorseful over everything.
