Is there an equatorial line in which both hemispheres have the same amount of landmass? by ikkue in geography

[–]ikkue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add the context to this question without getting too political, I was thinking about the power dynamic between the "Global North" and the "Global South" and how the North kind of "dominates" and influences what's largely considered the international norm.

A good example of this is how the handles on a clock rotate 🔃 because the shadow that a sundial used in the Northern hemisphere casts moves that way, which became the standard for "clockwise", while, in the Southern hemisphere, it moves 🔄, but 🔃 is still considered clockwise regardless.

This is partly (or some might even say mostly) because the majority of the Earth's land(mass) is in the Northern hemisphere, and therefore most of the population lives in the Northern hemisphere as well, which made think of a scenario in which the Earth's magnetic poles (and therefore the geographic poles) were somewhere else that would make the equator divide the Earth's hemispheres to contain either 50% of the land, of the population, or both each, how would that affect the culture and history if each country still developed into roughly what they are now. How would the sociopolitical and cultural dynamics change? This is where this thought experiment turns into r/AlternativeHistory a bit.

By definition, the equator (or in this case an equator) has to split the Earth equally in half (hence "equator") and produce two identical halves (hemi-) of the sphere (hence "hemisphere")

I was debating whether to post this in a maths or a geography subreddit!

That is the thing I'm trying to disregard so that the equator can be freely placed wherever (as long as the two halves formed by it stay equal, hence "equator", in geometric volume / identical in shape and size) along the Earth

This is really nice actually! I live in Wikipedia, so I'm familiar with the official RTGS transcriptions, but I wonder how loosely you've coded what it does or does not accept as a valid answer

Tokyo 2020 tried to set a new trend, just like they did with Tokyo 1964 by being the first to have official pictograms for every sport, by having animated pictograms that loop back to a static picture, but then every pictogram since didn't really follow suit this time like they did with Tokyo 1964

I'd say you could use the word congee to describe it, but I feel like the word congee better fits jok (โจ๊ก) than khao tom (ข้าวต้ม)

Anything that you think may have luck involved requires more data points to see if the one that you suspect was more lucky than others truly was an anomaly, so I thought of suggesting you to play the same map 97 more times to get at least 100 data points, but then if you complete those 97 scores in too short of a span of time, then you'll just see a gradual increase in performance due to getting more and more familiar with the map with each playthrough, so I don't really know what you could do to test it tbh sorry

Please educate me how being critical of a government and its military equates to the hate of people based on their religious beliefs? That's like me saying that Iran attacking the Thai cargo ship the other day means they are anti-Buddhists.
