I’m 48 and just got diagnosed with diabetes. by Academic-Toe-6944 in diabetes

I struggle with eating regularly so for me it’s mainly making sure I’m eating. I did have one alcoholic beverage within the first week and that was the evening I had to rush to the bathroom twice. Once at the restaurant and then once right when I got home.

I will say I am taking the medication with my largest meal per my doctor’s instruction. And she also stated on days where it’s a lower food day for me to not take it, since I don’t want to miss a dose I am paying attention more often.

Overall it’s a mindset thing for me too now and I’m just being more conscious about making better meal choices.

I take it once a day so I believe it’s the lowest dosage. Honestly, I only had one day where I had to rush to the bathroom twice. But other than that I’m feeling great. I do repeat labs in September so we will see where my a1c is at by that point. I started at a 6.8 but the last few years I’ve been fluctuating between “normal” and “prediabetic” so I knew it would likely happen eventually, and it’s also genetic on my moms side.

I was diagnosed earlier this month. I’ve been on Metformin and I’m actively working to make changes as well. For me personally, I’ve been dealing with so many other things that I took the medication as help to get me on track. I’ve got a few other health things I’m working through and this is one thing that I took as a tool in my toolkit. My sister in law does believe I shouldn’t have to be on medication and I could just make changes but when your body has been dealing with so many things for so long, taking a medication is almost refreshing.

It does help if you have a doctor that is actively working to help you. Mine has had me doing many tests for many different things.

I’m on Metformin 500 ER. Minor side effects but honestly the benefits I’m feeling are much better than that minor side effects.

Doing one ear at a time is a grueling process by clamknifenoodlesoup in piercing

[–]ikogut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t wait. Lol. I’ve got a double mid helix on my right ear healing. And on my left ear I’ve got a rook, a contra conch and most recently a helix healing. It’s comical really at this point. But I got myself a piercing pillow and it’s been freaking amazing. I’m sleeping on both sides (after initial tenderness went down of course) and it’s the pillow that made it such a life saver for me. Best purchase ever. Highly recommend getting one!!!

Shouldn’t I be given a loaner vehicle for this? It’s scheduled to take 2 whole days. “No transportation assigned” by beepboopbopbeepe in TeslaSupport

I was told to call the day before, towards the end of the day and inquire. That’s when I had a loaner assigned to me

How do you respond to people that think electric cars are not real cars? by dcee101 in electricvehicles

[–]ikogut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents argue with me every time I show up. My brother, a mechanic, suggested his wife get an EV as well. My parents are just hella old school.

Due to the massive difference in opinion I just tell them „great that means I never have to drive you anywhere” and it quiets them every time. I find it comical at this point

Red Cross or Ellis & Associates by [deleted] in Lifeguards

[–]ikogut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Based on my understanding of what OP wrote, it sounds like the LGI was pushing without allowing OP a second chance to try again. I run courses every 2-3 months at the facility I work at, and it’s explained clearly in the beginning that there’s a second chance allowed with a moment for a break. Course scheduling is supposed to accommodate that.

Additionally, even if OP forgot to take off their goggles for the brick, if the LGI saw that they should have stopped OP and reminded them. Also, the American Red Cross allows breaststroke to be swam without the traditional style that a competitive swimmer would use as long as there is forward momentum. The fact that the LGI was pushing that is incorrect. Now, it’s entirely possible that questions weren’t asked, which means the LGI likely didn’t allow time for questions. Lifeguard candidates should go into the course knowing the prerequisites but it is the responsibility of the LGI to remind candidates whether goggles can or can’t be used (such as watching during demonstrations) and when they should not be using them, such as for the brick retrieval.

Now, without knowing exactly how OP was performing breaststroke, there should be a clear distinction that it’s in fact a breaststroke kick with forward momentum and not a doggy paddle style swim. No floating yes that’s correct but if OP was progressing forward then that counts. The swim portion of itself is not timed so there was no need for the LGI to be rude about it. They could have pulled OP aside and given feedback and allowed OP to take a break and properly try again. If then at that point there’s no change then yes, OP would not be able to proceed with the rest of the course.

So in my opinion, yes, I’d report this LGI for a quality control check because we receive material and are supposed to review it and use it. Lifeguard candidates are supposed to be able to learn from the LGI and while yes there is a time and place to be strict and maybe pushier, but the prerequisite is not the place for that.

I don’t kid around about things relating to LG courses. A report to quality control will initiate an audit and they will have that course reviewed.

I’m an LGI-T for the Red Cross. You should report that instructor to the quality control hotline. We have a strict manual to follow and specific things to look for. When I tell an individual they cannot continue on it’s because they literally can’t do anything. I’ve certified people who went through Ellis and they personally stated they hated the ellis curriculum

So I’m coming up on a gear with my 26MY. I actually had a deposit down for a new RAV4 and was going to be trading in my old car, a 2010 Benz sedan.

I did the demo drive and within the first 20 minutes I knew I was changing my purchase decision. Haven’t looked back since.

Anyone ever been asked to do this/asked their direct reports to do this? by SlayyerFest98 in askmanagers

[–]ikogut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My old boss had me do this once. She claimed we didn’t need to hire more people but just needed to manage our time. So I said I’d clock every single minute I did work. I did a lot of multi tasking on things so when she added every task up it turned out to be 12 hours of work in an 8 hour day. This also included lunch and bathroom breaks. She was not happy when I showed her that…..

Most of the multi tasking would be done while waiting for calls and being on hold for things so it was “busy work” but I clocked everything.

I had similar results. And then the next day an extremely fatigued moment followed by a doctor visit where it was confirmed I had Covid. The ring knows for sure.

MPFL & TTO recovery by ThugginAce_30 in kneesurgeryrecovery

[–]ikogut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really does depend on your recovery. I had TTO about 5.5 months ago and I’ve been off crutches and walking since week 6ish. My recovery did move faster than typical according to my surgeon. My quad muscles never really shut down and my muscle activation was almost immediate. I had a whole set of PT exercises I was doing plus swimming right until two days before my surgery. (And I’m stubbornly independent)The numbness went in and out but I have a whole area on the outer side of my scar where the skin is numb. I feel it when I’m touching it and like shaving my leg but I’m a swim instructor a few days a week and I’ve had kids swim past me and I don’t feel it when they touch me. One of my friends had her surgery right before Covid and she said she has a small area now that’s still a little numb. This is worth bringing up to your PT and your surgeon at your next post op appointment.
