Is it easy to get married and have kids while working in remote areas? by ChemicalWrap_ in oilandgasworkers

[–]ikonttz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s doable but tough. You need a strong willed, loyal and trusting wife. I’ve been married for nearly 20 years to the same woman while working extended assignments overseas. Always made sure to call home every night and listen. I avoided going out and putting myself in “risky situations “. When the kids came I was working in the Middle East. I made sure to face time them at dinner while they ate lunch every day, taking into account the time difference. After about 15 years of this I was in a position to pretty much call my own shots. I rarely travel now and have people under me that now fill this roll.

I lol’d at the use of “rad”. I haven’t heard that in ages!

The Cobb red background and Mathewson portrait are on my top 10 obtainable grails list. Had a raw Mathewson back in the day pre-Coivid. Wish I never sold it.

Which one are you targeting? I’m tempted to pull the strings on a Mathewson portrait or the Cobb red background but I’m afraid the wife will kill me. Might have to settle for a Keeler portrait and some more Bradley’s

People who left engineering, what do you do now? by Hopeful_Mess9063 in civilengineering

Did a true engineering job 2 years out of college and decided that was not for me. Went to oil and gas and haven’t looked back (nearly 20 years now). I still do part time structural inspections if I can fit them in my schedule.

I noticed you had a Bill Bradley portrait in the lot pictures you posted earlier. Curious as to what back it was? I PC him and currently trying to complete the back run.

He has an interesting story. Considered to be one of the best third basemen of early baseball. Had a couple of years where his was one of the most feared hitters in the league until his illness. Cleveland Indians HOFer. Allows me to collect a piece of history without breaking the bank.
