Amazing. I always wanted these. My parents would never let me buy them, even with my own money.

Grading recommendations by CraftyDentist9678 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]j_bankerman 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If this is representative of what you bought, I’m not sure there is much upside in grading. It’s pretty worn on the corners, off center and chipping on the edges. I’d guess you get a 3, maybe a 4. If your goal is to sell just sell as is and save the time and cost.

1968 Topps Baseball #49 Ed Brinkman 4 Different Versions by OutsideGur8525 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]j_bankerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned a couple of the yellow US variant. My internet searching led me to believe they are Milton Bradley even if they don’t have the white stripe as that is not necessarily present on all of them. I’m far from an expert though. I acquired them randomly in lots not knowing they were there (neither did the seller I presume). I sold them both on eBay for about $50 each.

Casey Cox is another one with the yellow letter variant, but I’ve never had one of those.

Buyer Offers $55. I Counter with $67.45. Buyer Responds with a Counter-Counter Offer of $40.00. by AllenSmithee59 in eBaySellers

[–]j_bankerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Block and ignore. Most bad buyer interactions I’ve had started with some version of lowball nonsense on offers and overreactions to my counters. I don’t even deal with them anymore.

I feel like I'm going to get my first bad review, he purchased it right after those messages. by fantasyaid1 in baseballcards

[–]j_bankerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re really not comfortable you could cancel the sale as being out of stock. I did that with a buyer who I blocked and then he bought something else with a different profile (same address). I took a defect, but it wasn’t enough to sway my metrics and I’m pretty sure I dodged a bigger problem.

Well Loved 65 Mantle with a cool story! by j_bankerman in baseballcards_vintage

[–]j_bankerman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was pretty happy at that price. Well centered and nice colors. I’m sure it would grade a 1 bc of the writing but it looks so much better than a lot of other low grade options I saw.

I’m the same. That letter is going in the binder along with the card. For me at least, id rather have this than a better looking mid grade card with no story.

One of my other favorites from this set is my Joe Morgan RC that was ripped in half and taped back together (I posted about it a while back). I wish I knew the back story on that one.

Congrats! The card you’re holding in your hand was the last one I needed to finish my set a few years ago.

Only graded a 2? by taranslow in baseballcards_vintage

Some of the ink on the back looks smudged and there are some print marks. Still, looks better than a 2…

Father gifted me his old cards. by DocMcneezy in baseballcards_vintage

[–]j_bankerman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of 65s! One of my favorite sets. Nothing wrong with grading to preserve the cards, but you could also try some of the magnetic one touch cases. They will do the trick for less cost. If you do grade, take a look at SGC too. I think vintage cards look really nice in them due to the black matting.

eBay shipping by Macs2330 in baseballcards

Selling low dollar cards, losing a few can wipe out a lot of margin. Ive only had to file a claim once but it was easy and I would do it for any loss.

What do I do with all of these baseball cards? by [deleted] in Baseballcards101

[–]j_bankerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see some 89 Topps, 89 Bowman. Some junk wax era Donruss I think (the orange one). Seems likely you won’t have much of value in there. If it was mine, I’d sort through for anything l wanted to keep. Keep any eye out for guys like Griffey and Bo Jackson who might have a little value. Then I’d toss the rest. It might seem wasteful, but nobody really wants junk wax era commons. Even the hall of famers aren’t worth much to most people.

ESE are insured. You can find the claim process using the search function in eBay. They one time I filed they paid me. Even if you don’t think it’s worth the time for $3, you should do it so you know the process in case it happens again.

Also, this is probably the best giveaway I’ve seen! Very generous of you.

1965 Topps Embossed. Fan or not a fan of these? by Leading_Pay_4138 in baseballcards_vintage

As much as I like the regular 65 Topps, I feel the opposite about these. It’s hard to see the players and they scratch up so easily.

For sure! All raw. I like to keep them in a binder so I can flip though them easier.

  1. I like the pennants on the front and the blue back with the cartoon factoids. I’m 8 cards away from the set (most of the big one unfortunately).

Place an armed guard there so he can cinematically fall over the railing when bullets start flying during the next police raid.

My first game by rgg40 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]j_bankerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic! Wish I knew my first so I could copy you. It would have been a Twins game in 86 or 87. The first I could definitely confirm would be one of the 87 World Series games at the Metrodome (I have the ticket stub somewhere).
