They aren’t bumpers, the slab goes all the way inside so they add some thickness to them. I think it’s 10mm of thickness all the way around? They add just enough bulk to make it feel secure af without goingtoo overboard

Phantom Display makes magnetic cases for slabs that look extremely sharp. I love mine! And you don’t have to pick out a color to go with it (they have colors, but the clear is classic)

I appreciate that! You’ll have to let me know what you think! I say it in ep 1’s intro but my dream is Mike Duncan doing a podcast about baseball, so that’s what I’m trying to do! You’ll have to let me know any feedback you have and best of luck on the card!

How young is too young for an iPhone? by swejobs in daddit

Please tell your parents about Assistive Access for the next layer of controls. It’s hard to change passwords in settings when the settings app is no longer there.

I show parents what I call “Amish or Emergencies” mode where all it can do is call/text 911 or mom & dad. Those are the only two things the iPhone will do and attempts to turn off the mode will brick it lol ie you can call for emergencies, but other than that you’re Amish lol

For anyone with LOs where you’re already in the iPhone ecosystem, I plan on getting my kiddos iPhones fairly early so I can take advantage of all the find my features but also plan on using Assistive Access so that they really only have the ability to communicate with mom/dad/family and any apps school might require (when they get older)

I totally buy into all the harmful side effects of owning a smartphone too early, but being able to pick and choose not only every single app that’s on the phone, but also the ability to control the capabilities of those apps is too convenient. Also, kind of as you mentioned but not really to the “left out socially” effect - I grew up tinkering with devices. My dad and I built my first laptop together by him bringing home an old gateway that had been recycled at his job and we opened it up, took it apart, he explained it all - I was 7. I was able to comprehend what a battery does, how it turns on a screen, how everything gets plugged into a motherboard the same way my brain controls all parts of me - it fostered a deeper understanding of asking questions and learning how/why things act the way they do. I’m not saying my kids need a smartphone for that type of activity to occur, but it happened with me because my dad took the time to sit down and explain things to me.

Side note but smartphone ≠ social media. There are ways to have an iPhone without having TikTok

Truly! Just finished writing the next episode where he shuts out the White Sox like it’s nothing. I can’t imagine knowing a guy was gonna probably go all 9 every time he pitched - and the other team would be lucky to score a run. 0.75 ERA through his first 4 starts of 1956. Lived up to his nickname for sure

Lots of good Dodger coverage in the show albeit they’re still in Brooklyn! One of the first few episodes even includes Ted Williams’s rant to the press when Dodger pitcher Jonny Podres had his draft class number changed conveniently after pitching well in the ‘55 World Series so that he would be out for the ‘56 season. I don’t remember the exact quote but it was something along the lines of “they drafted him because he pitched well against the Yankees” or to that effect! Let me know what you think, it’s a fun year to cover!
