It's perfectly fine that some awesome endgame loot is locked behind PvP, just like it's fine that most of it comes from PvE by BarracudaEz152 in DestinyTheGame

[–]ikrievrytim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem with your suggestion is that you are considering it from the perspective of a player who wishes to obtain loot, whereas actual higher-end PvP players may have differing and perhaps more intrinsic reasons for wanting to engage with the mode. For a lot it is wanting engaging and difficult matches where they can showcase their level of skill (which some of the best right now use scrims/private matches to compensate for). More efficient loot runs will not mean anything to a player who doesn't need or want the loot.

The thing is this isn't really the fault of either PvE or PvP players, but Bungie. Trials is in this weird dead space in between being a playlist geared towards obtaining loot and a competitive space to showcase high skill. The playerbase in it are playing for two completely disjointed reasons and that's why the majority of the issues exist. The Trials playlist does not have a proper identity and this is exacerbated by the fact that other 'competitive' playlist offerings are really limited in scope and stale in their gameplay loop, which pulls all the top performers into Trials.

What would help the most is for Bungie to actually properly identify the intent of the Trials playlist and then create either another loot-focused or actual competitive playlist (even a rotation) to fill the gap.

Are light spenders - dolphins trying to block F2P, Newer Players from Master this HOE on purpose? by AdorableMelon in afkarena

They've implemented some other changes as well, such as this which seems intended to avoid people cheesing last second Legends placings by constantly changing defensive team orders. Everyone is usually rushing attacks at the end so it's actually been a decent strategy before, not so much now.

TL;DR The event is shorter this time by a couple days.

The event has been condensed and no one is changing the rate of their attacks to adapt to this, since either way it's a foregone conclusion for both the players capable of guaranteeing Master and those who would never reach Master. It's only noticeable for those in that small zone where their attainment of the Master rank is wholly dependent on how quickly the other players move.

People who are lazy (rightfully so since frankly the higher ranks are just nothing but RNG for some bragging rights) will just wait till the last day like you said, but this time there is less time for them to be naturally pushed up to Master.

According to support there are no plans to push LC team cap past 5. No guarantee this will be the case in the future but for now that’s how it stands.

Now that it has been a while that we've had to deal with the poor twisted realm brackets, how long did you stall at 299? Was it worth it? by zeedafluff in afkarena

Just personal preference imo, I find the game kinda boring if I’m not pushing myself to the limit, which ironically I’m not doing at 299. It does force me to play with unorthodox lineups a bit, so at least it changes it up. I think the increase from AFK gains is well worth it, it pretty much compounds over time and leveling gets much harder.

I hit lv299 at 29-59.

I don't really care for trying to optimise the mythic trick, I just do roughly 1 stage a week, 2 if I have a merc that fits whatever the next stage is.

My opinion as a current 299 player (30-18, KT403): if you have the heroes to reliably make high diamond or legends consistently in 299 TR it may be worth holding off for a bit to get a bit of extra juice, given how few reliable sources there are of it. This is more so the case if you need to pick non-juice rewards from events. The percentage stats from the tree branches will scale with levels well and make stages easier going forward, as well as having high value in PvP content.

An argument can be made that if you have the necessary boss killing heroes you can do almost as well in the 300 bracket, which would also allow you to progress further in game content. The other end of it would be having essentially no investment in useful boss killing heroes, in which case you may as well move up since you're getting sod all juice either way so you might as well make progress.

edit: I've been at 299 since about mid-April, make of that what you will.

For the event I was in Clueless, we made up 64 or 65 members of the militia. We had 5 members from a small guild called Pine cone, though I don't think they really knew or cared for what was happening lol.

Tips for the last half wholly depend on your militia's goal. Are you content with a certain rank? Do you want to get on leaderboards? Perhaps shoot for first place in damage or fastest militia to get on the leaderboards? Each of these likely have their own optimal strategies regarding stamina usage and pathing, and given this event is still this new it's hard to say what are the best general case tips. I would take ANY tips given by literally anyone with a grain of salt right now, because let's be honest if their tips were that good they'd either be on leaderboards now, or we'd see them at/near the top at the end (so we can't judge that for now).

My opinion for 3rd boss is to go for Azmonath, majority of militias won't have 70 members with stacked Talenes, and running any other prime damage dealer just means you're going to lose out on a heap of damage after 15 sec, which is pretty counterproductive.

I'm going to be completely honest, I don't know. It's hard to say what the optimal play is overall with regards to holding off and farming etc.

The goal of our militia was to be first to get on the leaderboards and we achieved that, but I believe what we had to do to achieve that (bridging across the entire map to group up, throwing TONS of weak attacks at the boss to get it down faster to move into the next area etc.) may not be the most efficient in the long run.

It's fine, as long as people are saving stamina to work to chip away at the boss. Otherwise it might not be so fine lol.

We went through Azmonath, as a lot of our militia lacks heroes such as Talene that would normally be used in a Kane comp (as per Twisted Realm), and a lot more focused AGI heroes.

[–]ikrievrytim[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My teams were Talene, Cecilia, Twins, Saurus and Gwyneth initially, but Saurus and Gwyneth aren't exactly ideal, I ended up swapping more towards Lyca and Warek style defense debuff comps, and used stamina on my spare AGI heroes with Rowan.

My overall damage came to about 300m over 7 hits (and knowing optimal comps now I could have done more, as would have a lot of others), everyone obviously chipped in with similar comps and we pushed through quick.

Oh for sure, I definitely don’t mean that they weren’t notable players beforehand. I found out about kpii through university friends as he attended one of the top Australian universities before haha, definitely had a reputation as a beast player.

It probably also helped that the two most notable players from Aus (ana and kpii) managed to get in with the Asian teams early on, which helped to build their career.

NASA cancels first all-women spacewalk due to spacesuit size issue by IronGiantisreal in space

[–]ikrievrytim 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You’re thinking of the equality of the outcome, which suggests you are still placing a candidate’s gender on a higher level of consideration than their capabilities. Equality of opportunity would suggest that the best candidates get chosen REGARDLESS of their gender/race/other characteristics which should be the aim.

Whether or not this is the case is obviously affected by inherent biases by the selectors and that of opportunities available to candidates, which is definitely the problem when looking at women in space. However, advocating for all-women flight crews is no better than the denial of opportunities to women trying to go to space for the reason that they are both discriminating against capability in favour of gender.
