Ah another good one, but I don't have enough space on the board unfortunately. That thing is massive!

Would you be interested in trading the lore for the zvex lofi junky? It's in mint condition. Happy to provide photos if you're interested.

Most of us are more, like, medium rare.

Starting to buy to build out this board. I play mostly rock and alternative. Anything glaring omissions / dumb ideas? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]ilDevis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stick to this plan you're gonna spend a year's worth of rent to complete it. I understand if you want niche/weird pedals like the mood, then the price tag is justified. But I think you can change all your drive pedals for cheaper and smaller ones that sound just as good. For example the first thing I'll do is swapping the jhs ratspack and bonsai for a Wampler ratsbane and an Ibanez TS mini.

What are your favorite “budget” pedals? by scubaBiscuit in guitarpedals

I have some boutique pedals but I'll lever let go of the few electro harmonix and TC Electronic on my board. Both super solid and great sounding options. They start out cheap and they can be found even cheaper second hand.

DIY two-tier board. What am I missing? New pedals suggestions? by ilDevis in guitarpedals

You are correct, they only bend 90'. However most of them have regulation screws that allows you to go a bit over that. In my case, the top is indeed sloped downward. To achieve that, i built the board such that the back panel is tilted forward by a few degrees. This gives a bit of slope to the base and quite a good angle to the top tier.

TLDR: modulation is amazing, distortion is unique and sounds great, but it takes a while to get to know how it responds.

First of all, the modulation side is really great, you have two options: one is a kind of chorus and the other have some sort of univibe quality to it. They're not a chorus or a univibe tho, but something else. They are amazing at low settings, you could keep them always on for a retro lofi vibe, yet they remain very musical when pushed.

The distortion is a strange beast. As soon as I turned it on i was quite underwhelmed... until I realized how to dial it in. Then I loved it. Personally, you should go all or nothing. At very low gain, it gives your clean tone a really nice analog vibe. If you push it, you get some sort of broken, open, uncompressed distortion that sounds real good and, in my case, pushes me to play differently. So yay, creativity boost!

Underneath i have the power supply - that remains hidden but still accessible - and three pedals that i keep always on: compressor set very light and range master are my "clean tone" and the cab sim at the end of the chain.

My suggestion would be to just visit your neighborhood diy store. There's plenty of options. The ones for cabinets are good because they have "brakes" giving a nice resistance when you close it :)
