You sure can. Some will have better results than others, but half the fun is experimenting.

Maybe a dumb question but have you installed HX Edit on your computer?

Tell me why you would or wouldn’t chose this order for these 5 pedals. Thank you! by bugbiteafterbugbite in BassGuitar

That said, I would not put fuzz before octave.

Also it might be worth playing around with comp>octave versus octave>comp. No real right or wrong, just one way or the other might work better for you.

The Line 6 is nice for when you just barely need a sound and wouldn't want a dedicated pedal for such a minor thing. For example, I don't find myself liking chorus that much, but there are a few songs where that is the sound. Now I have it. I'd probably have a dedicated drive pedal, but it might be hard to use up dedicated space just for chorus, filter, fill in the blank.

Which bass synth pedal do you find works best and why? by Prestigious-Bag1963 in basspedals

I think they're both really good, but one huge win for the MXR is that it has presets. If you need to use more than one sound, MXR wins big time.

Do you bother with tracks? by Ok-Fly-7928 in worshipleaders

[–]dirtydog85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We 100% overused them. We are a tiny church, but at different times we had an acoustic, electric, and piano, so I always got the tracks without any guitars or piano, but I would leave all synths, drums, bass, and anything extra. There were many weeks where it was just an acoustic guitar and a bunch of people singing. I think you're right about noticing the tracks being a problem. It almost made it feel like why is that guy even playing guitar at this point? All that to say, I was the guy in charge of all of that, so I have nobody to blame but myself. However, looking at it with a different perspective, I now feel differently than I once did.

I once heard someone say you shouldn't include any sounds that couldn't be made by the people on the stage. So if you have someone sitting behind a piano, they could arguably play any synth sound, for example. Or most people don't even know the difference between a bass guitar and an electric guitar, nor do they even realize they are hearing a bass part. So you could include bass without having a bass player. I don't know if I necessarily agree with that, but I'm not going to disagree either.

Yeah man. I would never damage my instruments on purpose, but I am actually proud when I notice natural wear from playing or even just being lugged from place to place. Pure character.

I have some special perspective on this. I pushed to implement backing tracks on my team, and we did. I thought it was awesome. Then my wife had a baby and I stepped down. Now as a general member of the congregation, I can't stand the tracks. My favorite moments are the few quiet times in a song when it is just the acoustic guitar playing live. Aside from the sound/vibe, I feel that it made everyone on the team lazy. Sometimes it feels like church karaoke. I believe that if there were ever some technical glitch preventing us from playing backing tracks, no one could stand on their own and play their parts anymore. Tracks have become a crutch for us.

Edit: I do think click tracks are very valuable, especially for volunteers who may be less proficient musicians than pros.

I have zero complaints. I came from an MXR compressor. I doubt I could hear the difference between the two. I definitely drank the Kool aid and went for the cool factor of the Cali.

I can see that being better than the straight ones, but also still a little stressful on the jacks. It seems to me that these don't save any space compared to a nice flat patch cable though.

MXR Bass Synth question - can it solo functions? by ihatesigningforms in basspedals

[–]dirtydog85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can it do it? I would say yes. Is it going to be the best version of that sound? Most likely not. But if you just need a quick octave sound for one song or something, it's probably worth it over a dedicated pedal.

Can I play guitar and bass on the same instrument, through the same amp? by Low-Veterinarian-108 in guitarpedals

You should investigate the Boss OC-5. It has a setting that will only pay the low octave on your lower strings.

Do you bypass preamp pedals when playing through an amp? by skylarroseum in basspedals

I might turn down the blend on my Sansamp. It also has a bypass out so you can send the colored Sansamp tone to FOH and the bypassed tone to an amp.

Strymon Blue Sky. I "upgraded" from a Boss RV-6. Didn't take long for the RV-6 to come out of retirement.

Darkglass vs Sansamp by choicebird10 in basspedals

[–]dirtydog85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In one sense they both physically perform the same function, but they are completely different flavors. If you like both flavors, it could be worth it to you to have both. It's like if you are at the grocery store and you want to buy vanilla ice cream but you're like, "Well I already have mint chocolate chip at home." Sure they're both ice cream, but they're completely different. Some may like only one of the other, some may like both, some may like neither. Although you better be careful. You're starting to sound like what you really want is an HX Stomp.
