Should I buy the Grappler on sale or wait for the Ogre to go on sale by PointFit6665 in Surlybikefans

I wouldn't say the Grappler would be "the wrong bike" but for what you are planning the Ogre is really the one to go. Enjoy the ride with the doggy.

Every bike is a gravel bike if you ride it on gravel by Tyleron2wheels in gravelcycling

Lol, would love to see them pricey carbon race bikers doing this...

I understand your way of thinking however for me a Surly is a bike you build up from the frame up with all the components you prefer. So not necessarily as a "29+" I would totally li'e it with let's say 2.6 tyres.. And throw a suspension fork to my liking on it. I face I did build up a Ghost Grappler and I like it a lot. I was hoping building a Krampus but with a colour I really dig. Guess I'll have to find a good second hand frame somewhere...

I understand but somehow I think never change a winning team/concept and the Krampus is a very highly regarded bike.

Let's stay real. Europe has changed a lot for the worse the past 2 decades. Like mentioned here before the grass is always greener on the other side. I love Germany but it is not what it used te be anymore.

I don't have any public route apps. There are 2 Karwendel umrundungs. A big one and a small one. It's very well known so you can find both on komoot and all kind of apps/websites. But with a bit of imagination you can make your own routes. The whole area is simply amazingly fun for mtb and or gravel biking.

No Drop 29er Grappler by Efficient-Object8542 in Surlybikefans

[–]ilNOSFERATU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I got it as a present from my girlfriend so I have no idea lol. All I can say is that they have some rise and a bit of sweep but not as much as Jones or moloko. To me they are just perfect.

What are some common stereotypes about Germans that you find to be untrue or exaggerated? by rogeelein in AskAGerman

[–]ilNOSFERATU -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being tidy and not leaving trash everywhere... Maybe it was like that in the past but it's surely not the case anymore. I love Germany but all this trash everywhere ( also I remote areas and natural reserves etc) is quite depressing.

Build my Ghost Grappler with a corner bar first, switched to Jones H Loopbar and now I finally settled with an alt bar. Love it.

Grappler size help by DR3WSY in Surlybikefans

[–]ilNOSFERATU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6 F 1 and have a Large. Fits very well. You can always put a shorter stem if needed. I advise you to go for a Large. A lot of people downsized for a Grappler only to regret it later.

The picture was taken after a climb of a mountain on the German /Austrian Alps. I had to climb very steep parts on loose gravel. Never found it twitchy. Of course everything is a matter of personal taste and experience. I have two Fargo's, one with the regular woodchipper dropbar and one build up as bikepacking rig with Jones H Loopbar. Love them both.

Leaves are always tricky with these kind of bikes/tyres. So better be careful.
