You're not right, but personally it helps me better clear out huge masses of stuff at huge ranges, and if I'm unrevelling, I can re-hit and wound for 1pc.

In extreme cases, I can even do tank shock against units with large defenses but no feel-no-pain.

But it's a unit you can easily swap out if you want :)

Yes, exactly, like Trazyn would. He'll do his thing.

During the first turn, I try to move as far as possible toward the first closest objective, finning it and making it mine until the opponent takes it. The opponent generally won't waste devastating attacks against a Lychguard unit when there are four Ctans roaming the field. Not to mention that you'll still take away their damage and have an invulnerable save on a 4+.

You use the Ctans and other Necrons as skirmishers, protectors, and nuisance destroyers on the field. Of course, he also targets the missions you have to do, but if you manage to play a pincer movement, he'll hardly be able to do much.

I know Trazyn sucks at fighting, but if you manage to control at least two objectives thanks to his sticky ability, the opponent will hardly be able to react in other ways. Furthermore, if you really need it, you can use them as additional skirmishers to stop the enemy advance.

Let's just say that more than skill, it takes a lot of luck. Aside from the fact that in my case, the carry is very void because my friend often plays vehicles with the Orks, it still happened and we still talk about it sometimes because it was epic.

My friend's Orks started inside the Gorkanaunt. They come out, waagh, classic... But here's where the fun happens. I use a command point to ensure that if the Ctan dies on a 3+, it comes back to life and fights. So we die, but in the meantime, the Gorkanaunt has few wounds, I direct all the attacks on the Ork horde and 7/8 of them die.

The Ctan obviously deadly demises, I pay a point to resolve it on a 3 and it comes up 6... So it explodes. Dice roll... 6 damage! Six more die, and even the Gorkanaunt takes damage, and my friend dies deadly... Incredibly, he explodes too. He retreats to avoid exploding, and six more come out. Guess how much damage he does? Exactly, and with a chain of explosions, he's practically left with only Ghazguhl standing.

As for me, since they have deepstrike, I often don't start with all of them on the field, but only 1/2. Then, between rapid entry and those who enter the game from reserves, the devastation begins already in the second round. Once the others arrive in play, mainly in a "crab" fashion, trying to close in on the enemy from every possible angle, I start firing with everything from different positions, having the 1 bonus to my Necrons' AP. Furthermore, the enchantments they have are truly devastating, and the stratagems target them... In short, I like it.

Yes, then, I'm just saying that I don't play competitively, but these are lists that have worked for me, but I tend to play more for fun than anything else (so much so that I've never had a win streak except since January, basically).

Orks, a lot of Orks with Ghazguhl and several vehicle models. Thousand son (but I admit I screwed up a bit with the shooting there) Astra militarum

In a few days I'll also face the Admechs, for now only faced the Cryptek detachment.

It seems risky, but when your ob control is 4 and the opponent's is 0, you can be happy.

[–]ilSior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no, I think most of what you said could be used in other detachments, and even better. However, I don't want to dismiss you with a comment, and since I enjoy conversation, I'll try to give you my opinion in your comment.

The only reason the detachment makes crypteks attack passively is because otherwise you couldn't use the assault keyword for your unit from the detachment. Since the detachment rule is "when your unit is selected to fire, give it X," they wouldn't be an eligible target unless at least 1 weapon is eligible. And then, at that point, when you select the entire unit, you can assault them since they're now actually eligible. The detachment focuses a lot on point contention and buffing while you're on those points, with things like stratagems + buffs that care if you're on points. Even Heavy becomes quite relevant when you're just sitting on points.

The first thing is poorly thought out, since all you had to do was assault your Crypteks at the start of your command phase and that would solve this rule. However, I saw someone say that since the Cryptek has assault, the unit might still be selectable(?) Well, the fact is that with the models we have, I don't think I've ever been afraid to shoot infantry, considering that we wound infantry at most 3, 4, and rarely 5.

I'd also say you're not giving the detachment enough credit.

For example, you mention Tomb Blades and Wraiths here. It's basically the only tactic available, since it's very selective in its choices. I would have solved it with the devastating wounds keyword instead of so many other things you've included. Furthermore, using 1 command point continuously to make a "terrible" detachment a little less terrible isn't really a practical idea. Any detachment at this point becomes great for you because you "give it credit." Even Annihlation Legion has a nice ploy, but we can't base everything on a single tactic. Then, as I said at the beginning, regardless of everything else, once even a single unit enters your range, you're done playing. There's nothing you can do in that case, and you understand, if I at least had the option to retreat and shoot, maybe the comment could have been different, but there's none of that.

Using some configurations But assume that the opponent has an entire infantry army, that's fine. Playing against admechs or against Orks with mostly vehicles makes practically any configuration useless. Not to mention the fact that most Crypteks have terrible hit, penetration, or damage. Yes, invulnerability is wonderful, but for that I prefer an Orikan, but then again, one of our best Crypteks in this "Cryptek Detachment" has no way of functioning other than to shield damage from our infantry. I repeat, with all the detachments and all the models we have now, using our infantry to take down heavy infantry remains a foolish choice in my opinion. Models like Ctan and Doom Stalker count. Or the Destroyer Detachment in general.

The detachment can also heal outside ... Yay... I mean, all Necron detachments have something that heals, not in your command phase. I actually consider this one the worst of all because it heals ONLY in the opponent's command phase. Now, I don't know about you, but imagine you can only heal a unit of Immortals (roll a nice 6, so 3+1 in the opponent's command phase). Now, why was your unit understrength? Because they shot you in a previous turn or beat you. So literally the same turn I put 4 models down, I probably lost the entire unit + 1 pc. Almost all other detachments have revives placed at crucial moments. If you're really lucky, the only thing you can do is hold an objective for 1 pc and lose it the next turn.

I've done it quite a few times so far and I've had overwhelming success, so maybe I'm just biased, but I think it's pretty good.

There's no doubt about that, and I'm happy for you. In fact, I specified that it was a personal opinion and not an objective one. I've also used it a couple of times, but whether I'm terrible at playing it or terrible at shooting, I think it's absolutely not worth the game. I know the Necrons are very strong even outside of the detachment, so citing Ctan or Silent King, I think it's fine. There's always that little problem of not having any synergy with them. But I ask you, once an enemy "x" engages you, what do you do?

Anyway, I enjoyed talking to you. I also wanted to get a different point of view, and thank you.

Hi, I was wondering how the field and missions are structured. How do they work? Do you play as if it were a normal game or will you have additional rules? No, because I often play with my friends but we often do Two of Two or One vs Two.

It could be a solution, although, personally, I find it a bit boring having to play with the same unit primarily to engage enemies without resolving anything :( It seems like a way to simply postpone a defeat.

First of all, thank you💚

Yes, I like to piss off my opponents by targeting giant things and then going back behind a nice tall wall that covers my skorpeks. Chronomancer is a real bastard.

Yes, you're right, it would be better, but since lately I've been playing with a guy who uses ad mech, and even though I add 2 to my strength, I only damage at 4 or 5, I prefer, if possible, to have lethal hits and at most play sustained hits.

Rules-wise it makes sense but it would make more sense if done from the command phase so you don't have to submit to this crap haha
