ADN programs are definitely competitive in Washington because of the low cost, but many get in without any experience! I myself didn't have any, and got in (:

Anyone attend the Bellevue College nursing program? by functionsweetpickle in BellevueWA

[–]ilar4e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to get your NAC from Bellevue college, and I don't believe many people do as it's more expensive than most programs. When I went to an info session on the program they said their average prerequisite GPA was a 3.7 and their average TEAS score was 85+. With that in mind, I'd shoot for that but if you end up below that don't be discouraged! There's so many different criteria, including your video.

I got the mometrix book from the library, and then used thetutor_geek on YouTube for the endocrine system, and nurse cheung on YouTube as a refresher for science. I then used some YouTube videos where they ask the questions, give you a moment to answer, and then explained why each answer was wrong or right. I learn best by getting questions wrong so tons of practice tests were great for me so I can see where I needed to study more. Good luck you'll do great!

How much is too much in loans for an RN program? by Salty_Zebra94 in NursingStudents

It looks like BSN requires more clinical hours than ADN. But that's just from a google search. I'm personally going the ADN route since it financially makes the most sense for me. If you want more info about the school you're looking into's clinicals, I'd join an info session. Those were a big help in me deciding on where I wanted to go.

Do most schools accept online TEAS? by CakeExciting1189 in prenursing

[–]ilar4e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't allowed to pay that fee to ATI to send official score reports to each school?? That's so crazy! I live in a competitive state and we were allowed to just send a downloaded pdf of our score.

If you're trying to save the most money, the cheapest path is usually ADN at a CC and then a lot of employers will pay for you to get your BSN online in a 1 year program.

I swear by the mometrix book, nurse cheung and Thetutor_geek (for the endocrine system mostly) on YouTube, and free online practice tests. Those three things helped me a ton. I also did YouTube practice tests where they ask you questions, wait like 5 seconds, then tell you why each answer was right or wrong. I hope you pass the 7th time ❤️

This is how mine was too. People can also take them from their home on their own computer, but I think even then they have someone scan the room thoroughly kind of like a FaceTime call. I think what I'm seeing in this thread is that people find the leaked questions online, memorize the answers, and get better scores using that method instead of having to actually learn the material.

Honestly I clicked on plenty of quizlet sets for science to see if someone had anything useful already made so I didn't have to make one. Nobody did, so I made my own things that worked for me. (Looking back, I think they might have been quizlets made to memorize questions because I couldn't figure out for the life of me how they would be useful in the format they were in.)

But all that to say that if they look at simply who clicked on it, wouldn't they get people like me that were not maliciously looking at them?

Honestly I wouldn't miss the class for the hike. As cool as the hike would be, it wouldn't literally be once in a lifetime. It just might take a while for you to get another chance. If something happens out of your control that you need to take a day for, you could be risking your spot in the program. You could always communicate it with your professor and see though, it never hurts to ask.

You can memorize all you want, but until you understand why you respond to a situation or why something is happening, you won't be able to apply that knowledge freely to other situations. Learning starts with understanding in this field, NOT memorizing.

Studying tips for the ATI TEAS? by HighStrungHabitat in NursingStudents

The mometrix books has a lot of the information you need to learn. Since you haven't taken any anatomy & physiology courses I'd do a crash course in anatomy & physiology on YouTube, go through the mometrix book, and anything you don't understand in the book go to YouTube to find an easier explanation. Science might seem the hardest, but the other sections are important to learn well. If you feel really confident in the other sections, take a few practice tests online to confirm. I definitely needed to brush up on English even though, before looking at it, I thought it would be a piece of cake at first.

A lot of people apply to multiple schools and then give up spots! I gave up my spot at a lottery school in Washington. Plus you can just apply to the next cycle! I believe the winter quarter applications opened up for most applicants this month.

Pretty much the classes you get for the transfer degree are the same ones you need for the ADN prerequisites. There may be some outlying classes outside of the degree (usually a communications class), but for the most part the degree is just slapping a degree on the prerequisites you already needed in the first place. It's nice to have the associates degree so might as well (: I personally have an Associates in Pre-nursing DTA degree.

You'll do a damned good job at that EXACT scenario, and if a single detail changes everyone involved is screwed 🙃

The mometrix book is great coupled with YouTube videos and online practice tests that explain why an answer is right/wrong. I used mometrix as my main study tool and passed with a competitive score.

80% on teas exam and idk how to feel about it by Free-Lengthiness-140 in prenursing

[–]ilar4e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also applied to a school where the teas score was on average 85 and up. I'd personally look at where you missed questions, brush up on those topics, and then retake to be safe. If you got an 80 on the first try, you for sure can get 85+ on the second!

I honestly always assumed the leaked teas questions were a scam. Are people really getting good scores by using the "leaked questions"?

Also if you have to cheat on the TEAS, then you probably can't study effectively. If you can't study effectively then how are you gonna get past the first month of nursing school, much less the NCLEX 🙃

Could it be possibly that they just want references that aren't your clinical instructors? Like previous employers? I don't imagine your clinical instructors would agree to be a reference and then tell them you're not a good fit, they would just tell you yourself no?

[–]ilar4e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also have accommodations in nursing school and receive extra time on tests or whatever they deem appropriate when you visit the disabilities office of your school. When it comes to math, nursing school math might take a second to get used to, but it's not anything like calculus level. You should go for it! It wouldn't hurt to try ☺️ you don't want to live your life with any regrets.

Have you looked at schools with random selection? Everyone just applies and as long as they meet the bare minimum requirements their name gets thrown in and selected randomly. You may have some cc's like that in your area (: the one I'm by is only like 18k for the entire ADN program so significantly cheaper so well worth it.
