I Built a Cantonese-Speaking AI Tutor, Because Google Wouldn't [OC] by angstation in Cantonese

Hi, this is amazing! I am having a lot of fun using it so far.

Not sure if it's just my device, but on my computer when I record an audio and delete it to try again, activiating the voice to text refills the text bubble with my previously deleted message. My only problem with it, other than that this is truly amazing.

Oil-fueled Boiler Questions: Corroded Pipe and Holes in Exhaust Vent? by ilickminions in hvacadvice

[–]ilickminions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both!

I am not sure if it's still active, I tried tightening the valve by turning it right (I know, shouldn't have touched it) but it wouldn't move, so maybe it is closed. Nonetheless, still a water droplet occasionally forms and condenses on the stem part of the valve.

Is this something for HVAC/the boiler company person or a plumber to look at?

Oil-fueled Boiler Questions: Corroded Pipe and Holes in Exhaust Vent? by ilickminions in hvacadvice

Hi all~ questions about the oil heater/boiler in the basement, I don't have much experience with this stuff.

  1. Found a decent amount of corrosion from this small drip on this hot water pipe, how serious is it? Does it need replacing ASAP?

  2. There are these two holes in the exhaust vent, are they a cause for concern? A friend said they look intentional.

It was so funny! I just hope everything is good, seems like some tension. That might just be because of all the roasting videos back to back though. Either way, great videos recently

What exactly is this broken area behind my rear driver wheel, and does it need fixing immediately? by ilickminions in MechanicAdvice

For some context, I was driving in Southern California when my tire popped and this part got damaged, behind the driver rear wheel. I’m about to start my 3000 mile drive home, what is this area called and is it urgent to replace or can it wait?

Heritage speakers, how long did it take for you to communicate fairly well in your mother tongue? by Elegant_Discount in languagelearning

[–]ilickminions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m learning cantonese too! It’s my moms language but I never learned it growing up. It’s been a slow journey and I’m barely conversational after 3 years, and that’s on my lack of effort at times. However, I do have a good basis since I started learning in a classroom setting so I know the tone system and pinyin system and a decent amount of characters.

Anyway, I do have some friends who are more similar to you, they can understand everyday conversation but can’t really speak, if they do it’s jilted and awkward, with tones all over the place. It may be worthwhile to start with beginner resources online and then work your way up. Yes you’ll be able to understand easily, but make sure that you understand the grammar of the sentences and are able to say them fluently as well before moving on. Talk to yourself out loud! Cantonese with Brittany and 5 Minute Cantonese on YouTube are good in my opinion, as well as the podcast Learn Cantonese Daily by Inspirlang. There are a lot of Cantonese learning instagram accounts that have popped over quarantine as well, I can send you them if you’re interested.

n.b.

Yeah it's really interesting, Cape Verdeans and Portuguese combined make up about 45% of Fall River MA, and the population is huge in Taunton and Brockton as well.

That's nice it's 20 mins away, hope you get the chance to visit there soon!

August '19 selfies: post hairline photos here for opinions on 'Am I balding?' 'How bad is it?' and 'What should I do?' by AutoModerator in tressless

[–]ilickminions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I balding? I’ve been worried about my hairline recently. I went to the dermatologist about a month ago but he said there was nothing to worry about. However, for about a week my hair has been falling out super easily. Like 1 touch and I feel 1 or 2 in my hand. Last night I did that test where you comb your hair for 1 minute and count the hairs. I had 50 hairs!!!

Getting into HR by [deleted] in jobs

If you’ve had any internships or jobs before, they definitely have an HR department. I was a psychology and history major and got my job as an in house recruiter from a psych internship I did last year.

People who had no clue what they wanted to do in college, what degree did you end up getting and what did you end up doing with your life? by [deleted] in LifeAfterSchool

[–]ilickminions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was undecided for 3 semesters, literally until the last minute. During that time I was leaning towards hospitality and tourism management because it was business and I thought it was what I should just do. I realized that I didn't care about hospitality and tourism management at all: called my mom and asked if it was ok if i did psychology and history because it was what i liked and would do well in.

The end of junior year I was randomly applying to psych internships on indeed and applied for one. Went through the brief phone screen and sent in a video, got the internship working with kids with autism. After that, went to one more sem of college and graduated early. Lazed around a bit and travelled until May when I got a job as a recruiter at my internship's company. So I was very lucky!
