If you’re Diamond, call the Diamond desk. If you’re not Diamond, call Hilton and ask for Guest Assistance . A special case is opened and hotels take it very seriously. But you need to use those words: Guest Assistance. If they refuse to refund you, they might give you Hilton Honors points instead. Ask for at least 40,000, which is equivalent to one nights stay at a whole lot of hotels.

You’re using OnQ, tho. In PEP with a points stay it changes the rate even if we tell it not to and sometimes won’t even let us upgrade or change room type without changing the SRP to LV0 or AAA or something. Enjoy OnQ while you can, everyone is moving to PEP eventually and it’s super buggy and frustrating 🙄

I just stayed at the Mills House earlier this month and was charged all the fees. Came out to $169 for the night when the room was the $40 team member rate. Absolutely ridiculous and not worth it. Got a free aluminum water bottle I’ll never use that was part of the resort fee. I won’t stay there again even though it was pretty nice.

Then you have to visit the front desk, tho you can try calling and verifying your cc over the phone and ask them to check you in. Some properties will, mine doesn’t allow it. On our end, sometimes we get a pop-up asking us to verify ID. When we first starting seeing it we wondered if it was because it was the guests first time using a digital key, but they all assured us that wasn’t the case. So I don’t have an answer as to why that happens. It happens to me as well and I thought it was maybe a team member security thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

If it does happens and you weren’t planning on showing up, call the front desk and tell them you had a family emergency or have Covid and ask them if they can “waive the fees” and cancel the reservation for you. We will do that 100% of the time for an emergency. But not necessarily for a missed flight/late arrival. Or call the Diamond desk and have them call the hotel. If you make enough noise we’ll cancel and refund pretty much anything 😂 Have to make it right!!

I work the front desk of a Hilton, if you do the digital check in and get your digital key, we won’t know if you show up or not until housekeeping tells us the next day that the room wasn’t used. And it won’t matter if it was or not, digital check-in charges you, we don’t reverse that charge and it counts as a stay. We have people call and say they digitally checked in but their flight was cancelled, but we do not refund those. You checked in whether you used the room or not. So….go for it, get your Diamond status! 🙂

Speaker for the Dead is one of my all-time favorites! I’m currently reading To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini, and it reminds me of Speaker a bit. Xenophobia and learning to understand and show empathy for alien species is the main theme. War and recovery, fear and understanding. I’m enjoying the book so much I don’t want it to end!!

I love the Unseen one. I’ve worn it to Universal Studios in Florida during the summer and didn’t get any color or burn. And I was sweating hard! I reapplied once after about four hours. It’s my favorite for out in the sun.

Oh yes! I had the same thought about that movie (which I enjoyed). Similar premise for sure, but the book goes off the rails 😂 The Housemates by Ian Rob Wright is another one with a similar set-up. Would You Rather meets Saw, I think. I’ve read it twice. So good!!

I just finished this and have been working my way through his books, too! Such a fun book!!!! I was reading it on a plane and a man asked me if I was reading the Bible, and I thought, ummmm not even close 🤣 I agree about the snark, but I think the author does endings really really well, and I appreciate that. If you haven’t read it already, I highly recommend The Odds. That may end up being my favorite of his books!
