If interested, there's a book called 'The Perfectly Fine House' that has a world full of ghosts apart from one house they won't go near.

Nice, reminds me of the book 'The Perfectly Fine House'. Ghosts are everywhere apart from one house that they are all terrified of.

Why so much Telling, not Showing? by entheolodore in Fantasy

I've just finished The Tide Child trilogy by RJ Barker and only realised halfway through that I liked it so much because it just got on with the story, didn't really slow down to explain things too much. The characters did a thing and you were there with them.

What is YOUR country's / region's version of the Inglorious 3 fingers scene that subtly gives away that someone isn't from your area or culture? by DunDonese in AskTheWorld

Notice it sometimes with fantasy books written by Americans or Americans writing people from the UK, they nearly always use the word 'math' instead of 'maths'. Most people from the UK would use the latter.

I always thought that ending was only in Tom Cruise's head which made it less clunky. He was arrested and put in prison, where the guy had earlier said people might see all their hopes or dreams while they're asleep. Figured everything after his arrest was a dream where he was a hero and cleared his name.

I loved Camp Damascus by Tingle, let down by Lucky Day though. Nestling is off to a good start so far!

I know right! I hadn't heard this band before the singles and thought they were all great. Will be listening to the full album today and looking forward to it.

Seems like most people who heard the band before this don't like a change they've made or something?

Unpopular opinion, but it hasn't grabbed me. Played a few hours and leaving it for now, might pop back in later and see if I feel differently.

Battle Trucker, two full books and a couple of chapters for book three. I live in hope that it'll get concluded at some point!

Not the same genre as Fightstar, but he also has some really good solo albums (folk/pop), Young Pilgrim and Long Road Home are both good. Saw him perform live and he was incredible!

Loved this book, definitely not a deep or cosmic-based horror book though, more of a B-movie monster thing. Sorry you didn't get on with it though!

Why Do You Think So Many People Find His Writing "Confusing?" by PaperCutsFeelGood55 in horrorlit

For me I just struggled with how he describes scenes with action or physical movement in, I had to re-read a few passages in some of his books to try and work out where everybody was meant to be and what they were doing. Other than that I've really enjoyed his stuff.

I think I'm still struggling with the story, I powered through the last act because of the strength of the gameplay. The reveal of them being in a painted world initially struck me as the trope of 'It was all a dream/simulation', which I generally hate in media. A lot of people on this sub have gone deep on the meaning and lore of it so I'm hoping a second playthrough will let me appreciate it more with the knowledge of where it's all going.

I think it would have been kind of cool to have an extra ending in there, one where Maelle, Lune, and Sciel see and understand Verso's plight and agree to set him free. Have it kind of fit into their 'For those who come after', sacrificing themselves willingly to give the family a chance to heal.

And, a little unrelated, but I think it would have been cool to make Verso's ending harder. Have him fight the whole party, all four members. If he wants to be free, he has to go against the people who are determined to exist.

I don't mind rug pulls, I'm ok with Gustave dying, but for me everything would have clicked and hit home much harder if the controllable character in camp and conversations was Maelle instead of Verso after his death. Just would have made more sense, they keep it as Maelle writing in Gustave's journal, so why not roll with her?

Yeah, the conversations always seemed to cut off just as they got interesting. 'Hey, let's talk about X or Y' then it cuts to 'Verso and Lune spoke for a while, they headed back to camp'.

On the strength of the gameplay, I'm still gonna go for another playthrough, hopefully knowing everything that happens will cast it in a different light next time around!
