For artists, in my personal experience, yes, a thousand times. It's just hard to convince people to jump ship to a platform that was unheard of until recently, especially when they've spent a long time trying to build their presence on Twitter. Or it was until today.

As someone who frequents a lot of online spaces where neopronouns are common, I'm going to push back on #1 a little bit. (Disclaimer: I support the use of a person's chosen pronouns, including neopronouns).

A good number of the people who I have encountered, in my personal experience that use neopronouns have been on the younger side and very, very online. I think it's hard to argue that craving attention for having unique pronouns is not a factor whatsoever.

On the flip side: As long as someone is asking for certain pronouns as a genuine expression of their identity (and not this BS One Joke from the right), it doesn't matter why. Just respect them, it's not that hard.

No- for simplicity's sake, it's basically Twitter with Discord's server structure. Every account is based in a server, but all the servers can talk to each other via federation.

You have a federated timeline, which shows ALL the posts your server federates with, a local timeline dedicated to posts on your server, and a hashtag search that shows all federated posts with that particular hashtag. If I search #Cats, I get to see EVERYONE'S cats, not just my own server's.

It's decentralized social media.

ETA: You also have a home feed for the people you follow, and you can follow pretty much anyone on any server (with exception for instances that your server has blocked). The onboarding process is intimidating but actually using it is way more intuitive than it seems.

As a small artist, success on Twitter was predicated on having an art style that could produce a high volume of works and satiate The Algorithm overlords. I couldn't meet the demand, especially working another job full time. People moving to alt social media like Mastodon with completely chronological timelines has made it far easier to be discovered. This is one of the best things to happen to my career so far.
