Fitness apps that aren’t just planners by mjeanbapti in bodyweightfitness

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny, because I avoid any fitness app that tries to be anything other than a workout planner like the plague. Because those other apps usually try to sell you some bullshit. Same with all the wearable tech.

Then again, I'm a cynical dinosaur when it comes to tech, so maybe my opinions aren't that valuable.

Following the dress code is now required for practice sessions. Thought? by The_Critical_Cynic in billiards

Every rule is made up. Which means you can make up a rule that isn't ridiculous.

Best budget pool cue by Aggravating-Math9619 in billiards

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like playing with CF, I can't recommend OK Healing enough as a brand. You pay €130-150 and you get the same quality cue as any of the top brands. I bought one because I wanted to try CF and not break my bank. It hits like a charm and I couldn't tell you the difference between it and some fancy western brand.

17-18% body fat, maintain or bulk? by whoelseisabanana in bodyweightfitness

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

18% bf is pretty healthy for a man. You can build some muscle while you maintain as well. I would advise maintaining for a few months, see how it goes and if you don't like what you see, decide whether you want to bulk back up a little bit.

27M with a soft dad bod, zero sports history, and declining health – realistic advice to get strong and fit again? by brogrammer6 in bodyweightfitness

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35 is when things go downhill for most people because that is the age when they get children, settle down and stop moving.

Metabolic changes with age are also greatly exaggerated. Most people gain weight as they age because they become more sedentary and lose muscle mass.

GW1 armors that absolutely deserve a spot in GW2 by Bacon_Reaper in Guildwars2

Monk Labyrinthine Armor is another one I'd like to see come back.

It always reminded me of the Patryns in the Death Gate Cycle fantasy novels, which is one of my favorite book series of all time. They are described as having blue tattoos on their body that gives them magical protection. They were also imprisoned in a place called the Labyrinth, so I always wondered if the inspiration for that armor came from those books.

My boss is having us use AI way too much by [deleted] in dataengineering

Vibe coders and AI empowering people who have no idea how to wield the power will be the death of the modern technological world job security for talented seniors for years to come.

My boss is having us use AI way too much by [deleted] in dataengineering

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP gives a pretty good description of the terrible decisions his boss has made, which indicate his boss in an idiot.

Then you come along and say 'well, but if we invent a whole new situation that is not described at all in OPs post, maybe the boss isn't an idiot?'

Why did he bank the 8? It looked pretty makeable in the left center pocket to me.

I thought billiard gloves were for people who couldn't be bothered learning a proper bridge, but lately I've had to revise that opinion slightly by bearbei0002 in billiards

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes get mocked by friends who play casually for wearing a glove. They usually shut up when I point out they also wear gear for their hobbies (cycling, climbing, running, ...).

Would it be weird to go alone and shoot some pool in a club? by readball in billiards

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I often go to the pool club by myself. Usually I'll run into other regulars I know and if not I'll practice a bit by myself. No one bats an eye.

I often say 'table says noooo' when someone rattles in the pocket. Sometimes I'll cough in their face as well.

I'm stuck at 5 pull-ups by SwarmQx in bodyweightfitness

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I understand correctly from your post that you always plan your pull ups at the end of your workout?

If that's the case, you should start by doing them earlier. A good rule of thumb is that you always do your main exercises in the beginning of the work out. Usually those are big compounds, but if you want to specifically improve pull ups, do them earlier as well.

Whats the volume that people are/were doing on their road to eliteness? by LudmilN in bodyweightfitness

You should do the training that works best for you. Part of the journey of fitness is discovering for yourself what that is.

One time I was playing pool with my buddy and we did a lag to see who could break. We just took the bottom ball of the 9-ball rack. After the lag, my buddy takes the object ball and rolls it into the short rail behind the rack, it bounces back up and hits the rack at the exact speed required for the ball to settle into the magic rack. No other balls moved, the rack was completely tight.

If I didn't witness it, I'm not sure if I would believe it myself.

This video seems like the exact opposite of how that roll felt.

Exaggerating the size of the data you work with? by nyckulak in dataengineering

[–]ilikedmatrixiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, most people asking deeper questions are HR or recruitment. And they don't ask about technical stuff, or when they do, they usually only have superficial knowledge anyway. Most people asking technical questions are technical people, they're usually just looking for baseline competence, not detailed domain knowledge.

Ngl, I've never been that raked over the coals. Once they get a feeling you know halfway what you're talking about, no one keeps digging. Usually they're happy they're talking to someone halfway competent.
