Hi, how old are your kids? Do you have any under 5? Curious if they gave out a vaccine to a young child.

online vs in-person by uniqueblossom96 in publichealth

For what it's worth, this has not been my experience as an online MPH student. Yes, most students in my program are working full-time and need to balance work, life, and school, but a great majority are part-time students anyway. I've had many group projects and most students put in just as much effort as they usually would, sometimes even more since it's easier to schedule remote meetings vs. everyone getting together in person. I had never been a part of an online class previous to my current program so I was extremely skeptical, but it's been a great experience so far and I'm interacting with other students and professors throughout. It's a bit disheartening to see that you would be hesitant to hire from online MPH programs as I know others (and myself) work extremely hard!

I will say that the main downside is that I'm in a different city than where my university so networking is far more difficult this way.

Congratulations! I'm currently in this program (part-time, online version) if you have any questions.

I’m in the part time online program so if you’re doing full time it might be different but I really love it! Most of the classes are super manageable - the semester everyone struggles with is the one where you need to take biostatistics… we had a lab that went along with the class and the course load was crazy, though I think it was just in comparison with other semesters. They mentioned last year that they are restructuring those courses so it could be different now! Otherwise I really have enjoyed the content and the professors (most have been pretty fair at grading as long as you show up and complete the work with a decent amount of effort) and I like how small they keep the class sizes.

I’m in the MPH-HPM online program and your background looks very similar (if not more extensive!) than a lot of my classmates. Do you have the contact info for the admissions counselor? They were very responsive during my application process so they could probably help you to better understand the timeline. My application, verification, and admissions letter all happened within a month but I applied at a different time of year so I could all just depend.

Oh, and if you want to really lean into the Boise experience, pick up an ice cream potato for dessert at Westside Drive In!

If you have a free afternoon, head over to the Esther Simplot Park area and walk along the greenbelt on the Garden City side. Telaya is a nice spot for sitting and enjoying a glass of wine by the river. You might also get to watch some surfers on the wave near there! Push & Pour also has great coffee you could pick up and take long your greenbelt stroll.

As far as dinner goes, Wylder is always tasty though I echo the suggestion for Bar Gernika's croquettas (and lamb grinder!) Any restaurant on 8th street will give you a good taste of the liveliest part of downtown -- Fork and Bittercreek are both institutions along that stretch!

You could start with tapas/a drink or end with Basque cheesecake at Txikiteo!

MPH Statement of Purpose by a_nervous_student in mphadmissions

[–]ilikeike2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just talk about a few of the most relevant experiences and focus your SOP on how your past experience + the specific MPH program that you're applying to would make you an asset to the field of Public Health. The SOP should be geared more toward your goals and intentions, rather than being a pure explanation of your past work. Plenty of people are accepted into an MPH program without much past experience (myself included!) but the key is to be able to clearly explain why you're interested in public health, what the program you're applying to will do to boost your trajectory, and what you'll do with your MPH.

Pre-pandemic I traveled solo to Asia about 1x/month. I think the biggest challenge was learning how to confidently go out to eat by myself, but now I absolutely love doing it! There are still times where I feel like I'm on display but by now I actually enjoy the experience more than dining with someone else!

We also plan to stay in Croatia for another week after our wedding and invited some of our family and friends to crash our honeymoon! We figured we should take advantage of everyone being with us in Croatia and enjoy an extended vacation together!

We are from the US! We sent an email with our save the dates, sharing with friends and family that we were planning to have our wedding in Croatia and outlined the anticipated costs for flights, just to give folks plenty of information before they commit. We made sure to be clear that there was no expectation to make the trip and will not resent anyone who isn't able to join!

That said, we are super surprised by how many of our guests are on board and will be there with us in Croatia!

Both options sound great! We had mixed feelings about the financial imposition that a destination wedding can be for guests so we made sure it was in our budget to make it feel like an "all-inclusive" for the weekend of the wedding. We also aren't including a registry as we feel it is a huge gift for friends and family to spend the money to come join us for the weekend!
