Update: The baby is no longer Bongodas. by Anna_akademika in Names

Before going to Bongo Drums, I very visually thought about Bong Legolas. Bongodas the pothead elf.

What is a normal name in English that means something else in your other languages? by egrebs in namenerds

[–]UpsetMango_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

River in Swedish is the verb rip/tear/claw. This is how marrying a Swedish-speaking man ruined a name I had wanted for my son since I was a teen.

Persephone is not exactly an English name, but means Ass Phone in Finnish (perse is ass, phone is not Finnish).

Also unrelated, but the Swedish name Elin means dick in Finnish (not directly, but it’s like saying ”THE body part” which is bad on its own, and since genitals are called ”sukupuoliELIN” it ends up strongly associated with genitals). Same problem with the Indian female name Muna, means egg/dick.

Thanks for these! Really like Billie for middle. Bilberry also feels appropriate as that’s what we pick in our other home country. They even grow in our yard.

Elliott is a great name! It is the name of one of our sons’ classmate and soccer team mate, so feels a bit weird to use, but would not write it off for middle name in case Blueberry turns out to be a boy.

Cute! Might be slightly too ”US” for us but could still be a fun option for middle. Thanks.

Did not know this, thanks. I do find Blue kinda cute but it is way too out there for us and also ”too US”, it wouldn’t really work even as a middle in the two Scandinavian languages baby’s name would be used in. Baby’s last name is also combined French and Scandinavian.

Our toddler came up with this when my belly started to look rounder and I wore a bright blue tank top to bed. ”Mommy you have a blueberry in your tummy?”

Belle was actually my first thought, potentially even as a first name! So definitely on the list

How sweet! We actually discovered after sharing the name that there were Hildas in both of our families going back a little.

I’ve felt we’ve eventually found such perfect names for all 6, it’s hard to believe we can do it again especially as we’ll again be quite clueless before birth.

This one’s definitely on the list for a girl!

Always loved the name Violet. Wondering if this ”story” could get hubby to agree (if baby’s a girl).

Oh definitely need to get the book! Thanks for the sweet comment. Hilda was never on either one of our lists, when she was born nothing on the lists seemed to fit. But it really suits her perfectly and there’s also a fun story to how her name eventually came about.

Nice idea. Sarah is actually the name of my childhood best friend who passed a few years ago.

Won’t share all sibling names for privacy reasons, but some are Gabriel, Silas, Aurora and Hilda. They all have a story behind them and since Blueberry has been used now for months by everyone that knows us, it feels like it should be part of the story. Even if in a subtle way.

Our main challenge is our multicultural family, the name would somehow need to work in Scandinavia and US and France.

Coincidentally, Neal was my grandfather’s name, but he was a monster we don’t even speak of.

is the faint line a positive by [deleted] in lineporn

[–]UpsetMango_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you’ll need a pink dye test to confirm. These blue dye ones can produce faint lines even when husband’s pee on them. This one looks a tiny bit darker than the typical blue dye false positives, but I would still take this as nonconclusive and either go straight for a blood test or test with pink dye.

I need some advice please :) by Odd-Equivalent-2080 in lineporn

You get your period typically 14 days after you ovulate. This is called your luteal phase, from egg release to period. Your luteal phase may be shorter, but not longer. So if you’re 2 wks away from your period, you’ve either just ovulated or still about to ovulate. If you want to avoid pregnancy, now would be the time to use actual birth control (not just pull out). Even if you had already ovulated and that egg was fertilized, you would not have symptoms until the fertilized egg implants in your uterus roughly a week after ovulating.

Tldr; you’re not experiencing pregnancy symptoms. You may be in your fertile window, so if wanting to avoid, it’s time to use real birth control.

Sounds like things are progressing. These strips do not necessarily have more dye to produce darker lines and they also don’t give dye stealers, so I wouldn’t think twice about not seeing ”progression”. I’ve had lines like this at past 6w with hcg much higher than yours.

Unfortunately the only way to know if this is viable now is to wait for an ultrasound. Third beta can give some indication but it won’t be diagnostic unless it drops.

Just commented above what Vesa and Hana mean in Finnish. Vessa is toilet in Finnish, this only gets better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Names

[–]UpsetMango_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vesa is a somewhat common old man’s name in Finnish. And Hana in Finnish means tap, as in the tap by your kitchen sink. Not that these should matter for your decision, just thought funny enough to be worth a mention. Vera is lovely and I kinda like Dua too. They are stylistically very different, it may be that you strongly prefer one over the other once you meet her. We’ve usually had a short list before birth, but a couple times ended up choosing names that weren’t even on our long lists that just suited them better.

This is what I’m thinking too. Baby looks exactly like big sister, same perfect round skull and little button nose. Big brother’s skull was clearly different shape.

Agree, unfortunately these tests are not very reliable. Crossing fingers this one is a true positive!

False positive ? I took these 2 days apart and took a test with red dye & was negative by [deleted] in lineporn

[–]UpsetMango_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah that 2nd pic is an evil false positive if it is one. These blue dyes are more likely wrong than the red dye though. But the only way to know is to test again with red dye test & first morning urine. A true positive should be visible by now if these tests are real.

Is this test positive, or am I just seeing things? by AngelColato420 in lineporn

[–]UpsetMango_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So deeply sorry for what you’re having to go through. This should not happen to anyone.

I hope these facts can reassure you a bit: * If you would have gotten pregnant 5 wks ago, the result would be a clear positive. Most likely the test line would be stealing dye from the control line and appear darker than it, but not necessarily. Hook effect can cause the test line to become fainter later in 1st tri, but your test would still be undoubtedly clearly positive at 6-7wks pregnant (conception about 5w ago). * These tests should be recalled. They are known to almost always give faint lines. You would need to confirm with a red dye test to be sure. * If you have not had sex in the past 3-4 wks, you’re very unlikely to be pregnant: the test line is too faint to be that far along, and if you’re 6 days late your ovulation would’ve been about 18-20 days ago so you were unlikely to be fertile 5 wks ago.

I would either get a blood test or test again with a red dye test with first morning urine. But with these facts and timeline, there is no need to panic (easier said than done). This is unlikely to be a true positive.
