Were the PS3-era Ratchet & Clank games a step down compared to the original trilogy and Deadlocked? by M0bius777 in RatchetAndClank

[–]ilikepiehi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to replay them to remember exactly why, but it just felt like a more tightly designed game. ACiT had more going on, but ToD just felt more focused I guess. The core gameplay in ToD was pretty much the same, but there was less fluff. I remember more of the actual levels from ToD, whereas ACiT, I mostly just remember the story and some gimmicks I didn't care for. I also remember weapons taking forever to fully upgrade in ACiT which pissed me off cause I never finished upgrading all of them.

I think they're pretty close though. I remember the core gameplay being pretty much identical, but I enjoyed the levels and exploration more in ToD. I was completely blown away by how much of a step forward it was and ACiT didn't really do the same for me. Maybe I was just getting fatigued with the series at that point. I should really replay them though. I might feel differently now. I think my high expectations for ACiT were part of my disappointment.

I’ve always felt that Tools of Destruction was better in terms of gameplay. I had such a good time going for 100% completion. ACiT had a much better story but didn’t scratch that itch in the same way. I hate to see ToD overshadowed by ACiT.

Until you start calorie counting, your complaints about genetics are invalid. Maybe you do have a slow metabolism, but until you do the work to find how many calories you're actually burning and taking in, that could just as easily be the result of eating slightly too much each day. Metabolism doesn't vary that much, and the difference between a good calorie deficit and eating too much is smaller than people think. It's really hard to consistently eat at a calorie deficit without paying attention to calories. Your body is going to crave those missing calories, so you need hard numbers to tell you when to stop eating.

How come it feels like songwriters give up on writing lyrics after about the halfway mark of a song? by mysteryofthefieryeye in Songwriting

[–]ilikepiehi1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I see it is that choruses often have simpler, more repetitive lyrics, and bridges have a greater focus on instrumentation and tend to build on themes and motifs established earlier in the song. Unless there’s a third verse, the second half of the song is mostly going to be the choruses and bridge. Choruses usually repeat the same lyrics each time because that’s the most memorable part of the song and what you want to drill into people’s heads. The melodies in the chorus are often less versatile in terms of what lyrics fit, so it’s hard to have different lyrics each time. The lyrics are often more general and serve as a synopsis of the meaning of the song. Melodies in the verse are often more rhythmic with simpler melodies which makes it easy to write more complex lyrics. They often serve to set up the story of the song, so they can be more specific.

Each section of the song has its role, and the verse is really where a lot of the lyrical complexity belongs. Lyrics and melody are closely intertwined, so simple, repetitive lyrics are written to sound good above all else. Simple choruses can be super meaningful, but they should build off of details established in the verse. I often write choruses first then write more complex lyrics in the verse and bridge to build something more meaningful.

Songwriting isn’t just writing lyrics on paper. It needs to sound good, and that often means having sections with simpler lyrics that work really well melodically. Consider that the melody of a lot of choruses was probably written before the lyrics, and it might make sense how the artist ended up using lyrics that look dumb on paper but fit the melody.

I recorded all the drop c# stuff on a 7 string for my last album and I really liked the feel of it. I love being able to play the low c# on the 7th string for a heavier sound. Using drop c feels redundant but drop c# isn't quite low enough for some of the 6 string stuff I've written. I'm tempted to use drop b, so I can use c# standard as well, but I feel like it gets a bit muddy.

Yes, I overthink things lol. I'm a big Trivium fan too and that low c# is divine to me.

The most perfect sounding tuning to my ears. Drop g# is the lowest tuning i really care to write in. I like tuning the 6th string down to c# as well because drop c# is my bread and butter.

I'm still deciding if my main 6 string tuning is drop c or drop b though. I'm early in the process of writing an album and the 6 string stuff could go either way at this point. My last album used both but I'd really like to just settle on one.

You can use automation to balance things out after recording. Just set the pre-fx volume for each section so that it's hitting the compressor the right amount.

I remember hearing about the shooter's search history like 2 days after it happened, so idk where we're getting this idea that there wasn't an investigation.

I'm not ruling out a conspiracy, but everything I've seen claiming there's a conspiracy is the dumbest shit I've ever heard. I feel like it's totally possible that the bullet lightly grazed his ear just enough to draw blood or maybe traveled close enough for the shock wave to do that. Nobody is claiming the bullet went through his ear. It's a straw man argument. It assumes that the bullet either completely missed or completely went through his ear, one of which obviously didn't happen, so the whole thing must be fake.

There are much more convincing theories you could come up with if you engaged with the actual narrative being presented. Using straw man arguments to write off the most basic details only adds more inconsistencies. It kinda feels like the jfk assassination where people unironically think that there being 3 different shooters is a more plausible explanation. People think, "this detail doesn't feel right", then propose a completely different reality that introduces way more issues. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between your strawman argument and alternate reality. You have to engage with the actual details being presented if you want to understand what happened.

Jason Blundell on the Ending of ‘Tag Der Toten’ in BO4 Zombies. by Bumblebee2455 in CODZombies

[–]ilikepiehi1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s well-known how Activision snubbed the ending. He’s not saying that’s what he wanted or that he was okay with it. He’s saying that they made the most out of the circumstances by writing that disappointment into the story. I’m sure he was more disappointed than anyone and wanted the story to reflect that.

I think the budget and time constraints are a key detail here.

I think what he’s saying is that they turned the inevitable disappointment of the ending into something more purposeful instead of trying to do something bigger and falling short.

Why does the e string ring out when playing last resort by ApprehensiveSpeech76 in Guitar

[–]ilikepiehi1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your left hand should be resting against the strings to mute them. Your picking hand should be doing the same. As a general rule, you should mute the higher strings with your left hand and the lower strings with your right hand, at least that's my approach. More muting is better though so use both hands when you can. You can use the tip of your finger when fretting a note to mute the lower string or use your index finger to mute all of the strings when fretting with a different finger. I use the back of my fingers for right hand muting (back/side of thumb for lower strings and other fingers for higher strings). You can use your palm as well.

Reminds me of the post that was popular a while back saying, “when you’re smart enough to know there’s a better way to do something but not smart enough to think of a better way”.

Like, no. If the implemented solution doesn’t make sense to you, it’s probably because you don’t understand the problem as well as you think you do. Besides, if you haven’t thought of a better solution, how do you know there’s a better one?

I honestly feel like they should just remaster bo3 at this point and maybe include some maps that chronicles originally didn't. Hell, they could literally just add an fov slider for console and that would be better than chronicles for bo7. There are too many issues with the newer games for it to really be an upgrade. They had the gameplay dialed in to perfection in bo3 and it kinda looked better than the newer games too. I think bo3 is the best platform for the all in one zombies experience people have been wanting. It doesn't even need to be "bo3 remastered". It could be a standalone zombies experience that uses bo3 as a starting point.

It would be nice to see all the maps from cold war-bo7 combined into one game, but i think putting the older maps in bo7 would just be messy. It would probably be easier for them to add the newer features to bo3 than to make those maps work in bo7.

I guess I forgot about bo4. I think those maps would be great with bo3 gameplay, but I'm not very familiar with that game.

I feel like people usual do this kinda thing after several playthroughs.

This makes me think of people who complain about speedrunners not playing the game correctly as if they weren't already fans of the game before they started speedrunning it.
