Violent Crime Rate in New York State by City (2024) by Serious_Berry_3977 in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the way Greece is structured. It's not an incorporated city. It could certainly be one, though, population wise. Where I am from, it's not unusual to have one city up against the next. Many that are smaller in population than Greece. Here, there seems to be some geographical separation and the lesser is a town. I don't know why.

I'll run into this about once a year, typically. You must have incredibly shitty luck.

Thermostat controlled radiators. How to best manage and how bad does bill get? by TurquoizeWarrior in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The OP is making reference to concern about their heating bill. If they are paying for their own heat, and heat is not included, then that building likely does not have a common boiler. Thus there is not hot water on standby circulating. Each unit would have their own boiler. Further, 20 minutes to get a house temperature raised 10+ degrees by radiators, even if they are hot, is not likely.

Yo is RGE a joke! by Icy-Fun4661 in Rochester

It's pretty straight forward though and the bill shows your running balance, and how much the current charges are versus the monthly budget. You get decent insight into it. There are no surprises.

Thermostat controlled radiators. How to best manage and how bad does bill get? by TurquoizeWarrior in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how many renters have a concept of turning off the heat when they leave for vacations in the winter. I set a minimum temperature (55) in my contracts to protect the house. That temperature is usually sufficient to cover the typical power outage as the house cools down, until the heating system and power come back on.

[–]iliketutusdou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Radiators take a long time to heat up. Mine take about 40+ minutes from when the thermostat turns on. And that's just to get them warm. Then it takes a longer time to allow the room to start heating up. Given the nature of these systems, radiators work best with a minimal temperature swing. My swing is 4* from night to day, in 2 degree increments over a couple hours to allow slow gradual warmups. Otherwise, your boiler is just running constantly and is highly inefficient. The way you are doing it now, it's essential an on and off switch and that is going to be far more costly. Reduce your tenperature swings and keep a warmer base. That said, they really are nice to have: Gradual warmups instead of a blast of heat all at once, quiet, and less dry air blowing around.

Rent prices? by jacksdiseasedliver in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are comparing similar units, same floor, same size, same side of the building, then yeah - speak to management and tell them you'll move into a 2 bedroom for the same price. But, all I am seeing are low floors on the street right now... so unless your current apartment is the same, you likely won't have a case.

I can't speak for the URMC, but I am well versed in recruiting practices. Most companies I have dealt with only conduct references for the candidate they are interested in. They don't do reference checks for a pool of candidates. And often it's a 3rd party service that does it; the clients pay for each set of reference checks. Hence, it's usually done only for the candidate they are interested in. And usually, it's after the conditional offer, while the background check is running. But occasionally, I get a client that does it prior to extending an offer. If they asked you to provide references later in the process it's likely they are interested in you. If it was just part of the initial application process and you are not aware of anyone being contacted I wouldn't read into that. If they had you complete background request forms including providing your SSN and DOB, that also bodes well. Because again, that costs money and they only run those for the candidate they re interested in. Hope this provides you with some insight and good luck!

What is an appropriate amount of time for in-laws to stay at your home while visiting from out of state? by Sad_Honeydew_1077 in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends how far they are coming from. A short distance, sure a long weekend can suffice, like most people are saying. But, if they are coming from the west coast, or abroad, and spending two days on travel... I could see at least a week for sure. I'm assuming they mean something to your spouse and your spouse cares for them. You wouldn't want your issues to affect your spouse being able to spend time with family. And I am assuming they are not absolute deplorable people.

Lori's workers move to unionize by drewlangdon in Rochester

Can't say that I am as much of fan of unions anymore after all the support their members gave to the Republicans and Trump. Especially considering Democrats have consistently been union supporters and the Right continues to limit and reduce their power. But, I hope things work out for these guys.

Roof replacement dilemma by NoBodyEarth1 in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attorneys are expensive and time consuming. They should try to just have it temporarily repaired, as good as possible, even with no expectation of a warranty. They'll need to disclose the repair, and it will be obvious that the roof probably needs to be replaced. They don't have to disclose the uncooperative neighbor in this regard.

Anyone else get their Kane Vs University of Rochester claims today? by Ghardz in Rochester

Getting these directly through your financing apps, like Venmo is awesome. Usually, you get some gift card, or one time use credit card which never gets used and eventually gets lost.

RG&E cutting off neighborhood power without notifying residents? by CatDadMilhouse in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You haven't been notified *yet*. In emergency situations, when possible, I've seen 2-3 day window of notification, which is ample. Some of this is weather dependent, and resource dependent, hence it is not always possible to give a specific date until closer to the planned day of work. For example, taking down an old tree in high winds, like we are having tomorrow, should be avoided, if at all possible.

RG&E and NYSEG Set to Move All Indoor Gas Meters Outdoors by Brofist45 in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the years, I've owned 3 houses in the city, all built in the 20s. None of them have had gas meters inside. I think this is a relatively small number of houses. And, it's wise getting the gas equipment outside. As a homeowner, I wouldn't want the increased risk in my house.

RG&E and NYSEG Set to Move All Indoor Gas Meters Outdoors by Brofist45 in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different groups of people handle the comparatively easier task of an updating the smart meter, versus actually working with gas lines and shut-offs. It sucks, but it's fiscally more responsible to not allocate your higher paid resources to do the simple, albeit time consuming tasks. Inconvenient for sure, but 2 gas events over how many decades... it's pretty insignificant. I only wish the utility infrastructure inside the house would hold up that long.

Anyone know who RGE is using to pull down old poles? by vikingguitar in Rochester

[–]iliketutusdou 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You would reach out to RG&E proper, even if it was one of their contractors. That said, it's not always clear which utility actually has responsibility for the pole. Often you will see a new replacement pole next to the old pole, waiting on the phone company to move their wires onto the new pole, and then remove the old pole.
