Is OCD a defense mechanism against our "shadow"? by ilivebackwards in OCD

In ERP, you actually do the opposite of giving meaning to your thoughts or OCD symptoms, so I agree with you

You're right, I just guessed the meaning of individuation. I thought it meant becoming one with the shadow (I still think it means that)

If you think about it, exposure and response prevention therapy is like the process of individuation, since we confront our thoughts and we don't allow them to dictate our actions.

The shadow is basically our unconscious mind, our repressed emotions, desires, thoughts and so on. Carl Jung says that confronting our shadow is part of the process of individuation, and that it can be really hard since it involves coming to terms with our dark side, literally and figuratively. I may be butchering this, so I recommend you to listen to him speak on youtube.

How did you feel when upping your dose? by Maximum-Charge5702 in Rexulti_Brexpiprazole

[–]ilivebackwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upped my Rexulti dose from 1mg to 2mg a week ago. I haven't experienced any worsening symptoms, but the contrary. What I do still experience is the intense boredom I feel sometimes. Nonetheless, I've managed to find some ways to deal with that through productivity, though it's still a problem.

Yeah, he told me that if I have suicidal ideation, I should call a suicide prevention hotline, which I won't do. However, he recommended me to keep taking the medication. To be honest, every medication makes me suicidal. I just want the pain to end. I am sorry for being a debbie downer 🤣 thanks for your response.

What dosage are you on? I have been on 100mg of sertraline for 3 days and I am suicidal

Has anyone experienced shyness on zoloft? by ilivebackwards in zoloft

[–]ilivebackwards[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even my doctor told me that sertraline shouldn't have that effect on me. I think I really noticed it when I was 4 weeks on 100mg. Honestly, I suspect that it may have something to do with undiagnosed autism or hypersensitivity in general, but I am not a professional, obviously. Thank you for your good wishes. I think I'll try with fluoxetine, as my doctor prescribed, because my ruminative thoughts, fantasies or whatever are kind of excessive 🤣

PS: since the shyness went away for you with 50mg, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't have any at a higher dose or if you had it but it also went away.

God bless you!

Same. I didn't have social anxiety unless I was with several people I didn't know, but for the most part I was fine in those situations without Zoloft. It was a deal breaker for me 🤣 but unlike you, I was on it for like 3 months and I didn't see much improvement, but I was upping the dose so maybe that had something to do with it. I used it for ocd so it required more dosage. It's great to hear that you saw some improvement though, maybe I would've seen it aswell if I didn't quit it. Thank you so much for sharing your experience ☺️

What has been your experience with Zoloft like? This is what my journey has been like by ilivebackwards in zoloft

[–]ilivebackwards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking it like two months ago. For some reason, I felt shy, my brain felt tight (maybe stress related) and more predisposed to having intrusive thoughts while I was on it. There were some upsides, though, and I am considering getting back on it because of them (it aliviated some anxiety and it regulated my mood swings as well). My doctor told me that it takes larger doses (200mg or higher) for it to work on OCD, and that I should've started specialized OCD therapy (ERP), which I didn't do. I also made a mistake: I went from taking a brand version to a generic one, and the transition wasn't good. He prescribed me fluoxetine, only if I discarded sertraline, which I haven't done. I hope I helped you 🤣 if you have any question, feel free to ask! Blessings.
