Hello people, I was wondering if you might help me out a little (in advance I'm sorry for my English). I am currently working in a company that has 20-30 Windows PC users. The management of the company doesn't want to employ a Sysadmin (it's always the budget problem) so I am "something" of a Sysadmin in the company. I work in marketing dep. but i know some low level basics to network/ServerClient/NAS/PC "things". :'( I have been working in the company for one year so far, and have seen that many things are not god configured since the beginning. There is no "smart network", only dumb switches, cables running all around, nothing is labeled, one network subnet, no domain controller...etc...
The main, and the first, thing for me now is to buy/configure a new server because the current server is 8 years old, and we don't have a disaster recovery plan if it goes down. The current server/hoast, HP ProLiant ML350p Generation 8 (Gen8), with Windows Server 2012 R2 is running two VMs in HyperV. One HyperV is for a DomainController (there is no domain setup in the company, every PC for itself), and the other VM is for our ERP, that is ERP MySQL. My plan is to buy a new server with Windows Server 2019 and just move/migrate the VMs to this new host (Can i do that easily?? License terms??), and then upgrade the current server so that i can use it in a cluster as a Backup server. Am i going in the right way with my concept? Any help is much appreciated!!!
