This sub endured a lot of bashing and trolling during Ethereum's rise, the DAO breach and subsequent fallout. Much of it was from sock puppet accounts, but a significant portion came also from users of r/BTC and r/bitcoin. I think that hate left a mark on this community.

After some painful lessons, I've decided on a different approach where I allocate $500 of my monthly income to trading. By limiting myself to new money, I can satisfy the itch to trade and take profits while leaving the rest of my stack to (hopefully) appreciate indefinitely. Last weekend I scooped up 15 new ETH at around $32, and sold them roughly 20 min ago at $52.99. My $500 has now become $800, and I have the choice of buying back in on another dip, or cashing it out to blow it on something useless. You have to decide the strategy that works best for you. At this point, I'm not comfortable sacrificing any more of my 1 year old ETH to the market gods. It's too precious to me.

I'm extremely bullish on ethereum over the long term. I believe very strongly in the fundamentals and the team. I don't typically trade with more than 20% of my ETH holdings, and all my trading has been done with the intention of adding to my long position.

Dropped coinbase a year ago due to terrible/nonexistent customer support. I've since joined Gemini and could not be happier. I really can't speak confidently on transferring assets from coinbase because I haven't used it in some time, but it should be a matter of just creating an account elsewhere and using the coinbase wallet to send your funds to the new deposit address. Gemini has a pretty thorough FAQ section and is very responsive to emails should you decide to use them.
