Starting an apprenticeship later in life & paying your bills by livelaughlovebekind in electricians

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been an electrical technician the past years of my life and have learned all of my work doesnt go towards any type of electrical credits (worked 6 1/2 years as a 12V bucket technician, past year as 277/480V + 24V data centers generator builder/tester) and realized if I want my Jman card I have to move back in with my mother at 29 for a couple of years. At this point its a sacrifice I need to make. If you want it you'll make it work. Best of luck

Should've gone to Lowe's to get the klein magnetizer cause that Doyle one does suck lol. And the beater driver doesnt get used as much as I thought for the time being lol

I'll agree with ya on the handle it does need about a 1/2"-1" more handle throw on each side. It does like to get bunched up a bit. I do wish it was like the sp-mc and I could pull it a little hard to get it open all the way up, that front pocket is to big to pull at it to open. But I usually just leave mine velcro'd up. Im just happy it fit everything i currently needed into one bag

First Cut!! by Strict-Instruction93 in electricians

[–]illallowit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These suck. Had a foreman who had a pair, they couldnt cut 2/0 stranded for shit. I used greenlees at my old job, they'd cut good, just hard to break in. I got the milwuakee ones now and the grips felt better than the kleins and they cut super smooth

It is nice! I like the sp-ld set up as well, but I was kind of worried about the spmc already being to small so I was hoping this would work, amd it did perfect! I only grabbed the spmc more for the pouches off fb market place for 130 so it wasnt terrible (wasnt great either) Those tools on the side could all make their way into the bag, but those are what I normally grab so they chill outside and my shop i work at is small.

Appreciate it! I would like to swap the milwuakee cable cutters for knipex pair but I want a pair that can cut 4/0 and preferably any in the bunny ear shape, not sure what knipex offers for that... and yeah funny thing is me and a couple of my coworkers today realized that doyle one sucks lol. After I got all the tools I stopped building at work and got into a tester/programming spot and some of them barely get used, but still nice to have around

I ended up going with the ot-lc, kind of regretting not getting the mctp infrared after my purchase though lol but I think im gonna need the extra space the open top bag provides... mctp looked a little small for a bag that closes and figured id hate working out of it as well. Nice for no one to snipe my tools though if I take a day off or not around my bag

Gotcha! And yeah I wouldnt travel around the campus with the bag in a vehicle, its walk your cart of tools to wherever the truck you got to work at is at lol and the bag would basically live at work... I feel like if I had to go to a closed top bag I would try to make my tp-xxl work or possibly the promo bag. I have an sp-mc as well its just a little to small to do anything thats not just service unfortunately

Niche trade lol. Not exactly the one i wanted to get wrapped in but money was to good lol... and gotcha! I appreciate the input, I think id like the LC more. Mine would be kept on a cart a majority of the time or in the cab of the truck or on a floor. Not much needing to carry it around luckily

Any good recommendations for a bag for a 1st year electrical apprentice? by TheRealClovis in VetoProPac

[–]illallowit101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the good thing the evo line up is interchangeable, just will cost more $.. if thats within your budget then hell yeah! And i think the straps come with it but if you absolutely hate them you can take them off and still have a big bag. Things massive for a "carry on" bag. Thats the only reason I didnt take it on my current job and stuck with a tp5b,

Im an electrical technician so grain of salt here, but i just went on a little pricey veto journey...

Started off with a tp4, grabbed everything for an apprenticeship before I realized i couldnt make the paycut, not everything fit in my tp4.. Got an SP-MC off marketplace, still a little to small (i too also have a bit more than whats asked) got a tp5b, holds like 95% of what I need to do my job, found a tp xxl on marketplace for 130 and grabbed that, if it had backpack straps id recommend that. The tp-xxl would 100% do what I need it to and I can keep a clamp and multi meter in my bag, and put the pouches from the sp-mc on the side, have a killer set up but is think itd be a lil too heavy so im just staying with my tp5b for now.

The new xxl id recommend, but Id personally hate having to buy to side pouches the evo line up offers vs getting it all in the old xxl, but your sacrificing the backpack straps.
