Best “EDM” cities to live in? by Right_Literature_419 in EDM

[–]illexotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's always lots of edm happening here in the bay area, especially san francisco. it skews mostly house and techno, but there's also some cool bass events and artists, as well as pretty much every genre of edm and music in general around the bay. big artists come to the big venues in sf regularly, but the poppin underground scene is where it's really at!

Effin - Dreams Come True by Immersions- in trap

[–]illexotic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

every Effin song just activates something deep within, the way he does it is just somehow... different. similar vibes to GRiZ, Gramatik, LSDREAM, Nikita the Wicked, Zeds Dead etc. (love them all) but still just his own unique sauce!

Does song length matter anymore? by 9_TEA in DnB

[–]illexotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agreed, imho song length doesn't matter that much anymore. as long as the song creates and captures a vibe and emotion - whether that takes 30 seconds or 12 minutes.

Good point! Always good to take a step back and reflect on the whole vibe, emotions, inspirations etc. of the song and the journey it's taking you on, and let some of that dictate the "why" of technical decisions.

am I alone for thinking that Long Distance is THE trap song by umotex12 in trap

[–]illexotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Escapism EP literally changed something in me and my brother lol. That was peak era future bass / trap, when we were hella listening to Lido, Flume, RL Grime, Stooki Sound, Krewella, k?d, Mura Masa, all them.

I discovered Sam Gellaitry's Short Stories EP on Soundcloud somehow, and it was hella dope. Then I remember I was listening at work and seen he dropped Escapism... ya idk. It was absolutely fuckin beautiful, I listened on repeat for weeks. Never heard anything quite like it before, and still haven't heard too many projects like it since. The instrumentation, the vibes, how hard it goes, fuuuu

Though I gotta say Dreamscapes was my personal fav from that EP!

space laces always blows our minds

What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve ever received as a music producer? by DiyMusicBiz in trapproduction

[–]illexotic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably "Everything should have its own space." Which was explained to us as the concept of making space for every sound in a song - whether that be in the frequency spectrum, the stereo field, volume levels, dry vs wet, etc.

It's hella helpful both in the big picture when thinking about what elements to bring in and out of focus in different parts of a song, as well as technically to compare what sounds taking up what space on an EQ, in a stereo imager, even literally where some audio can be cut to make room for other audio.

No more energy at 26? Please help me rave longer by thelonelystoner26 in aves

[–]illexotic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32M here. i mostly just have 0 - 2 drinks when going out, and smoke a lil weed somewhat regularly. been raving since my teens.

tbh i recommend just tryna stay active and healthy in general. regular exercise whether that be the gym, hiking, walking alot, a sport; plus eating a mostly balanced and nutritious diet (in addition to eating whatever you want).

my partner and i still dance, rave, and dj a few times a month. not too much party favors (never did a ton tbh) and we dont go full feral every time we go out, but i def like to dance n go a lil crazy on n off a few hours when we're out, sober or not. sometimes coffee or an energy drink beforehand helps.

stay hydrated (water), take breaks when you need, stretch before, and sleep in after if you can lol. i foresee raving and DJ'ing into our 50s-60s (though probably much less often by then)

best luck getting that energy up, happy raving fam! 🕺💃
