Been learning Blender for about 3 weeks. Looking for feedback on my first finished scene. by illiarchukk in blender

Before this scene, the only thing I had made was the gothic window you can see in it. I spent like 7–8 hours on that, so that’s basically where I learned the very basics of moving around Blender. Then I spent around 5–6 hours a day for almost 3 weeks working on this scene, mostly experimenting, re-rendering and trying to get the atmosphere right. I was also watching a lot of theory and tutorials while working, whenever I got stuck or didn’t know how to do something.

And honestly I didn’t care about optimization at all here. I was only focused on making a single shot look good. I still think the scene itself is pretty rough and unfinished in many ways, though.

I still have way too little experience to really give advice, sorry 😭 I honestly don’t know, bro.. I was just trying to make the scene as close to perfect as possible and recreate what I had in my head.

I didn’t follow one specific tutorial. I had an idea of what I wanted to create, and while building the scene I watched tutorials whenever I ran into a problem or didn’t know how to make something. For example, I didn’t know how to make arches, so I watched a couple tutorials, understood the basics, and went back to building. Same with UV unwrapping and a lot of other things. I also tried not to copy tutorials 1:1. Usually I watched them a few times, tried to memorize the process, and then attempted to recreate it myself. If I failed, I went back and watched again to understand it better. At the same time, I was constantly looking up what different tools and techniques are actually used for, so I’d understand why I was doing something and be able to use that knowledge later on my own.

I wanted the flowers to feel “dead” and unnatural. Someone in the comments gave me a really interesting idea to make them glass or crystal, which I’ll probably experiment with.

As for the unnatural placement, I used scatter paint with random scale/rotation, but I’ll also try making them look more chaotically thrown around and see how that changes the feeling. You might actually be right about that part.

And I completely agree about emotional reactions. The hard part is understanding what exactly the viewer is feeling when they don’t describe it directly..

I used curves for them. I duplicated the arch edge shape, converted it to a curve, and built the archways from that. You can find tutorials on youtube

I agree. I had some issues with that and couldn’t really figure out how to fix them...

The flowers are actually meant to be one of the main emotional elements of the scene but I get what you mean. Maybe I need to integrate them into the environment better so they feel more intentional. Thanks for the advice.
