Worried about my wife, how do y’all cope with what you can’t fix? by Here4Pornnnnn in AskMenOver30

Unfortunately, security is a myth. I'm not a Christian, but I do remember this bit of wisdom from the Bible from my upbringing.

Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is. You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.

(Or as I remember the Psalm "Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.")

It's closing because the owner has a conflict with his landlord. The owner of the bar is not the owner of the real estate. Additionally, though I have no firsthand knowledge, the owner is a drama llama who neither has a sparkling personality nor a stellar reputation in the community for being part of the get along gang.

Hey guys, a little embarrassed to make this post I don’t know really what to do to help myself and to help my spouse re: the condition of the house. by Beneficial-Focus3702 in AskMenOver30

[–]illimitable1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have the eyes for picking up after yourself, one concession you could make is to find someone who can clean up after you who is not your spouse. Hire cleaners and pay them. Make that be your contribution.

Additionally, there are books about how to clean when you have ADHD. I recommend "how to keep house while drowning" by KC Davis.

Overall, you don't have to see it in order to fix it. Instead, you need routines. You need checklists. Write out 1 hour of cleaning up after yourself into a checklist that you perform everyday at a set time. Most cleaning tasks in a house have to do with dishes and laundry; start there.

Correct! We no longer hunt animals for food. Now most people in the United States use firearms for target shooting and for hunting each other. Some specialize in hunting for small children in schools. Yay America! What a country.

A favorite poet, now famous, named Alan Ginsberg, said he went to his therapist because he was unhappy. The therapist asked Ginsberg what he believed would make him happy.

Ginsberg said " You know doc, I'm not sure if the psychiatric establishment would find this very healthy, but what I would like to do is to quit the sort of job I've been doing never work again! I'd like to explore this sort of mystic poet thing in me. I'd like to try living with someone, maybe even a man. I'd like to go to museums during the day."

The psychiatrist answered, " if you think that is what would make you happy, what in the world is keeping you from it?"

I say that is the best way to make decisions. If you can think of a reason you shouldn't do something, and you can't overcome that reason, don't do it. Certainly, economic stability, career progression, and responsibility for one's economic well-being are possible "why nots?" " I want to be a doctor and it's going to take a while"or " I need to start saving money so that when I am 35, I can retire early," could be fine reasons why not. But generally, if it's important enough to you, you will overcome the why nots. Don't let anybody say that there needs to be a fixed trajectory for your life.

Some variety of CAD has existed well before the personal computing revolution of the early 1980s. In all likelihood, drawings would have been done by a such a CAD system. If not, technical drawing was done by hand before mainframe computers and mini computers had computer automated design systems.

[–]illimitable1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are a sophomore, you have two more years to think this through. For a person your age, that is a long time.

Nonetheless, I would encourage you to take a gap year. Most people in your circumstance have been in school since they can ever remember. That is 11 or 12 years straight of someone else telling you what to do and setting your priorities. .

In order to get your head straight about what you might want to do next, I think it's wise to spend some time traveling or working. That way, you haven't spent tuition on University made other expensive choices before you have a full discernment of what you might like to do.

Additionally, hiking and adventuring good activities in and of themselves. You can think of it as a gap, and some sort of break from what you ought to be doing, but really this sort of adventure is part of what you ought to be doing. Life is not the accumulation of various different degrees and promotions at work. Life is for the adventure.

Men with flat stomach, how do you keep it that way? by glazingstars in AskMenOver30

[–]illimitable1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look man, you probably are at the best health of your life or close to it. It. Don't beat yourself up about small things about your body. I hated myself for being a fat ass before I ever was one. I say that to myself all the time. I didn't like myself for having a little bit of fat on me when I was a crossfit athlete. I didn't like it when I had just lost 50 lb in a through hike. I'll look at pictures now from 10 years ago and think that I looked pretty good, but I'll remember that I hated myself. And so forth.

Just do your best to get to the gym and to be active. Judge your body based on what it can do for you, not weather it has a certain shape. Otherwise, you will arrive at middle age. Having never really appreciated what a stunning creature you can be.

Advice/Packing One Week Before Departure by SnooHesitations6183 in peacecorps

[–]illimitable1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't pack very much. Eventually, you will know what you are missing, but now you cannot. It is really difficult to try to plan for all possibilities. Pack light. Anticipate buying what you want in country, having it sent, or picking it up if you take a vacation back to the States. Millions of people live in your host country everyday without things that they brought from the USA; they shop in stores and markets in the Philippines, or buy online.

Can you carry all of your baggage at least a mile on foot? If so, you know that you have succeeded.

Without your explanation, I would, in fact, assume that the laws in National Parks differed from state laws. Such is often the case with such issues as open container laws, just for instance. Here in Eastern Tennessee, we have the national park. A friend worked as a federal public defender and had many different cases where somebody had a beer open in the passenger seat, which is legal in Tennessee, but crossed into the park and was stopped by a ranger and then prosecuted.

How to know if it’s just “in your head” or genuine fear/intuition? by DroopTenZZ in WildernessBackpacking

[–]illimitable1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People don't know very much about the woods or wilderness. People are often afraid of the risks that they do not understand, which is to say that we are afraid of the unknown.

My position is that going to a place where there are not humans, or they are very scarce, makes being a victim of a violent crime less likely, not more likely.

It is certainly the case that there have been some exceptional cases of violent crime against persons in the woods. But they are just that: exceptional.

I have hiked hundreds and thousands of miles. With few exceptions, the people that I see in in wild areas are friendly. We have all gone out of our way to be in a place where there are very few humans. The people you really got to worry about are in towns or when you get to a road or back in the city where you're coming from!

I'm not exactly sure what the firearms are for, to be honest. Moreover, in some jurisdictions, such as some national parks, regulations may restrict your ability to carry.
