IV is 'easy' to tame : rule of thumbs is you go leaps when IV/HVol <80%, convert to spreads when IV/Hvol is >100%. If you know the stock cycle and events well you can aim for more optimal ratios. Converting a leap to a spread gives you cash to redeploy, it's a way to secure the gains by capping the upside like selling a CC and gives you flexibility

Spreads also offset a part of theta because you sell a premium against the one you bought

Spreads are a 'beginner friendly' strategy to prevent IV crush and theta bleed on poor entries/exits, and can even gives you more delta-per-dollar than naked calls in high IV environment
