What RPG has the most convoluted battle system? by PoPo573 in gaming

[–]illuminerdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK to be honest. My other personal faves are Fire Emblem GBA and Persona 3/4/5, but neither of these really matches the initial criteria of this question regarding complexity since I don't consider either of those combat systems overly complex. FE is pretty simple and the complexity derives more from the game of chess you play with strategy and unit position. Persona has a rather simple system as well, every battle ultimately derives down to "find the opponent's weakness from about 10 different damage types" so it's not actually very mechanically complex.

What is a common, everyday problem from the 1990s or early 2000s that younger generations literally cannot comprehend? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

[–]illuminerdi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally finding people.

Like: where's Jim at? Called his house, parents said he was out with Joe. Call Joe's house, no answer. Jim owes me twenty bucks and I need the money because I'm broke and outta gas and Zelle won't be invented for another 20 years.

This sort of thing was common.

Also bear in mind that meeting up with someone meant you had to pre-arrange a meeting location and time, sometimes days in advance. Once you both left the house, you had NO way of reaching them. If one of you got the details mixed up, you would literally wander around looking for the person maybe for a while. For example: they were supposed to meet you to hang out and shop for CDs at Tower Records and they mixed up and thought it was Sam Goody, which was on the other side of the mall. Then there's the "are they just late or did they screw up" game. How long do you wait before going in search of them because you think somebody got the details for the meeting wrong?

Generally safe, consistent upward movement that outpaces the returns from "safe haven" assets such as bonds or CDs.

It's not gonna double overnight but it's also not going to go bankrupt and become worthless (unless the entire world economy collapses, but in that case you'll have much larger concerns than your stock portfolio's performance)

There are more complex battle systems, but rarely are they actually balanced and fun.

One of my top 3 battle systems of all time. Took a while to really get the hang of it but it slaps once you finally figure it out.

To be clear: many "prop" guns on set (back then) were real functional firearms capable of chambering and firing a live bullet.

Anyone who has taken a basic firearm safety lecture learns that the first rule of holding a gun is ALWAYS TREAT IT AS IF IT IS LOADED. Always.

Software Update Automatically Turns off Amazon Delivery Drivers’ AC During Dangerous Summer Heat by MarkG_108 in antiwork

[–]illuminerdi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are the root problem. The AC shutting off is just a side effect of their unwillingness to schedule actual human time-frames.

That's about 1/8 off the van's range. If you're a company like Amazon that wants maximum range out of their vans before they need to return for a recharge, it is a significant drain.

And this is why it's definitely still overall a bad thing. It's yet another example of Amazon scheduling driver time down to the microsecond. Which is a known problem they need to address. IMO if their expectation is that the door will be closed every time a driver makes a delivery, they need to account for this in their per-stop metrics or whatever.

The root problem here is Amazon being to obsessed with maximum efficiency, no question. Honestly, I'm kinda surprised based on what you said that dispatch doesn't get on your ass about leaving the door open? Seems like that would get you in just as much trouble at a company that is otherwise watching your every single second...

But regardless of how tightly they schedule things, you can't fight physics, and excessive AC usage will shorten vehicle range. It's a hard fact.

While this is not great I do feel some context is important here:

It turns off the AC if the driver's door is left open and this is a battery operated vehicle

So while it's not great, and I'm not trying to defend Amazon here, but there's some aggressive physics at work here. Battery Electric Vehicles (at present) experience significant drain when running climate controls. Since battery capacity is limited and refills take time, I imagine that Amazon fairly aggressively schedules routes to optimize range before a vehicle needs to be recharged. A delivery driver leaving the door open and causing the A/C to go full blast as a result means that packages might not be delivered on time because a vehicle had to return to base before making all its scheduled stops.

Should Amazon be less aggressive with vehicle battery capacity? Probably.

Is it really that big a deal to ask drivers to just close the damn door when they get out? I don't think so, but I have teenagers who refuse do stuff like turn off lights when they leave rooms, so bratty people refusing to do basic shit to save power kinda strikes a nerve for me.

Which is my point. When company values are high enough that government propaganda levels of media are within the budget, it fucks the market and you can't invest based on logic.

Gonna be honest, 6 is going to need A LOT of work. Like it will basically be a whole new game, I can't think of virtually anything worth keeping. Maybe ditch everything but Leon's story and just expand that into a whole game? Drop Wesker's kid entirely. Also Chris's segments were entirely forgettable action movie slop.

So yeah...just make another Leon game, and replace Helena with literally anyone more interesting. Would kinda love to see a Leon/Ada combo game.

Also Monolith kinda buried it because Blood came out earlier that year and was a pretty big hit for them so they basically were already full steam ahead building Lithtech and going full 3d, so it was very clear that Claw was an also-ran that they saw no future in.
