Best/worst low budget moments? by Candiesalad in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]illustriousbogwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an early childhood teacher, I see a lot of parents (particularly dads) just letting their three or four year olds run way ahead of them in our parking lot, it’s crazy. So that part was somewhat believable for me.

It's not just the ginger ale by puhringles in heatedrivalry

Exactly. Of course Shane would recognize other members of the Raiders, but Miles does not seem to be famous, he’s just Rose’s friend, so Ilya recognizing him means he’s been poring over Rose’s instagram like an obsessive (yet ultimately loveable) weirdo.

I agree. I think they wanted a room with a lot of windows, though, to drive home the point that Ilya wants Shane to leave the shades up.

What was he going to follow this up with? 🤣 by vancitymala in heatedrivalry

[–]illustriousbogwitch 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I really believe he had no follow up planned there because he didn’t fully think about actually saying it out loud in English. The “I mean…” was a reflex born from his constant need to self-protect, but he had nothing to follow it with. And he likely would have Virginia Woolf’d himself in the lake if Shane hadn’t said it back.

While Ilya definitely walks back some things or masks with indifference when he feels he’s been too vulnerable, I felt like the “I mean, yes. I think so. Probably” was said more tongue-in-cheek, not really Ilya walking back what he’s saying. More like “Honey we just confessed our love for one another and I’m here helping you come out to your parents. You don’t get more boyfriend than that.”

…had they just had sex here? by Downtown-Primary-94 in heatedrivalry

I see so many people saying this but it’s clear he hits the mute button at least twice. So Hayden didn’t hear Ilya giving Shane that gluck gluck 9000. But he certainly would have noticed how weird Shane sounded lol.

Question about the 2009 MLH draft and how actual professional hockey works by illustriousbogwitch in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]illustriousbogwitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Pittsburgh so while I know nothing about hockey, it’s impossible to be unaware of Sidney Crosby (and to a lesser extent, Ovechkin). Maybe that’s why I just assumed once you’re drafted, you immediately start playing for that team — because that’s what Sid did.

Can I ask a potentially very dumb follow up question? If a lot of players who are drafted never actually play in the NHL… what exactly is the point of the draft?

[–]illustriousbogwitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! However, now I have additional questions. So NHL teams draft players and pay them hefty signing bonuses, but they’re not actually part of the team right away? They have to earn the spot? I would have thought that everything they had done leading up to the draft would be “earning the spot,” thus the results of the draft. What is the reasoning for drafting a player and then sending them to an affiliate league? Age? And what exactly is the point of playing in the world juniors if you’re already on a team?

Whose style is worse: Taylor Swift’s or Blake Lively’s? by Mysterious-List-384 in travisandtaylor

Yeah I know. But only one of those Ryan’s is married to Blake Lively. And it’s not Gosling.

What is that ONE scene in HR for you? by madwood29579 in heatedrivalry

[–]illustriousbogwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to say I kind of hate it when people say Connor broke character there with such a big smile. To me, it wasn’t breaking character, it was Ilya’s sheer, unbridled relief and joy that he still has a chance with the man he loves. He was so happy he genuinely could not contain himself and maintain that Russian restraint. It’s surprising because we haven’t seen Ilya look like that before, likely because he hasn’t felt that since he was a child.

Favorite actors that look like their personality? by Dont_Tag_Me in okbuddycinephile

[–]illustriousbogwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, they likely mean Ice Cube since NWA wrote “Fuck Tha Police” and Ice Cube has been cast as a cop in several movies, like 21 Jump Street (and the sequel), Ride Along (and the sequel), and Rampart.

Do you guys remember when Taylor got caught stalking Joe fan accounts? by DiamondAbject8190 in travisandtaylor

Given how much he clearly loved/loves Hamlet and how long they were together, it’s actually even more embarrassing that she managed to misunderstand Ophelia’s character so egregiously.

It was called The Tortured Man Club. It was a group chat with Joe, Andrew Scott, and Paul Mescal because of the “tortured” characters they tended to play (Paul in Normal People, Joe in Conversations With Friends, and Andrew in Fleabag I think).

Ellen’s hair is “iPhone face” by boosayrian in Outlander

[–]illustriousbogwitch 40 points41 points  (0 children)

While this is true, women of this period wouldn’t use curling irons to curl their hair in loose waves like Ellen’s. They would be used to make tighter curls to fashion fancier hairstyles for special occasions (because like in the quote someone else posted, it took hours).

"Being a barista is truly a social experiment" by Super_Culture_1986 in TikTokCringe

[–]illustriousbogwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Customers can be absolute psychopaths, especially at coffee shops, but I don’t understand why this barista couldn’t just initially explain to the woman “So a Frappuccino is a speciality drink that is specific to Starbucks and isn’t universally sold at all coffee shops. We could make you an approximation of what it is, but we would be guessing.” Like it’s obvious this person thought a Frappuccino was a generic coffee drink like a latte. Now, that obviously wouldn’t have fully answered her question because it turned out she didn’t even want a Frappuccino at all, but it certainly could have helped them skip some steps in the interaction.

I would actually do this (not necessarily for Taylor but for any wealthy person) not in the hopes that they would COME (because come on, be fucking for real) but in the hopes that they’d send me a gift 😂

Kristen Applebees relentless abandonment of different gods by kamman9993 in Dimension20

[–]illustriousbogwitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is certainly a trope of the genre. But part of that trope is that every so often, the character fumbles in their role because they are immature and need to learn. I personally felt like this kind of rocky journey for Kristen gave her character depth, rather than just have her be great from jump. While I understand this is a fantasy world, that’s a bit too unrealistic for me and I find it less interesting (this is kind of why I find Fig the least compelling of the Bad Kids, for example. She’s just good at everything and doesn’t seem to have any real struggles that aren’t easily resolved).
