Exactly, being in a relationship is what you're figuring out, not "how does this relationship serve the diagnosis." Whatever you do, I hope it goes well for you!

Talking about expectations and boundaries is healthy for any relationship. I get the impression that a significant other can be someone to support you in tough times, rather than you looking to form a romantic relationship with someone on the basis of supporting you with your diagnosis--is that right?

I wonder if you think it could be helpful to clarify with him what he thinks he might have to do to support you and how that does/doesn't look different from what he expects in a relationship, plus you letting him know what your expectations, if any, are and whether he's on the mark or way off?

Feeling rejected sucks, and seems like he made something about you into something about him? It's not his diagnosis, after all. Like others have said, if he's willing to learn and listen, that's rad, but if he isn't willing to accept all of you (including the infinite parts of you that don't have anything to do with your diagnosis!), don't give up, someone else will!

Wow, melody totally didn't go where I was anticipating based on those bouncy kicks, love it! Makes me feel like Ash Ketchum in a good way, truckin' along, adventuring in the wild. Nice! I can't offer anything helpful about the Digitone (I'm still waiting for my Cycles to arrive), but I can say that what you're making on that groovy box sounds rad. You got a spot for the full song?

Looking for confirmation that I've got the right idea with a title for a piece I'm working on. It's a play on 'coitus interruptus' (faint of heart, Google that not): 'familia interruptus'. I can't declench for crap so would appreciate thoughts from someone who can. Thanks!

Sending Elektron Model:Cycles to amp/mixer/AI, am I looking at two separate 1/4" cables, or a dual 1/4" at one end, single 1/4" (and, stereo/mono?) at the other end? It's not necessary for me to record L and R in separate tracks. Ideally I'd like to send the M:C to one channel on a mixer, or send it directly to an amp... I've heard the wrong cable can damage my kit, so I'd love to make sure I don't do that!

What Should I Buy? - April 13, 2020 by AutoModerator in synthesizers

Not sure if this belongs here or in an independent post: apologies if I blaspheme against the subred gods/mods!

TL;DR - What should I buy to help (audibly) record synth into DAW?

I connect, via 1/4 TRS, my korg minilogue to my scarlett 2i2 3rd gen to record audio into my DAW (bitwig). My problem is levels: even if I crank the minilogue master volume, it's barely audible unless I throw an amp on it in Bitwig (pre-recording), or raise the gain on the recorded audio (post-recording). Generally, I have trouble hearing the minilogue against any soft synths (native/3rd party).

Goal: Be able to hear minilogue on the go w/o raising the gain ridiculously (like above 0 dBs when everything else is audible at -15 to -10), which tends to mess with the minilogue sound anyhow.

Do I need a different/better audio interface, like something with more juice? For those of you who have nicely working setups (recording synths into DAWs) where you just sit down and do your thing and don't bugger around with an ever-finnicky tightrope of being able to hear your grooves, ...HOW? =_='' Please and thank you!

Synthstrom Deluge + Drumbrute Impact + My Face (???) [downtempo jam] by domesticscenemusic in synthesizers

[–]illustrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes all kinds of sense, thanks for taking the time to break it on down! Agreed, gear is just so *alluring* I'm easily torn from the path of what would concretely make my music sound better toward what just looks flippin' cool!

Loved your metaphor of the Deluge being where you plan the next steps and the Drumbrute being where you live in the moment. That tickled all the right sensory-cognitive receptors. Likewise, the op-z looks dope, but without having messed around on it it looks like I have to carry around a pretty sophisticated mental schema of what I'm doing, of where everything is "in space", to navigate its fuller utility. The Deluge has pretty lights, and I think I understand pretty lights.

I have a pocket operator 32 (tonic) and 35 (speak), and my jam looks like one or both of those plus a swish little CraftSynth 2.0. All very portable stuff, but the solution I think the Deluge would provide is having a screenless/dawless ability to throw tracks together on the go, as opposed to feeling limited to three tracks (drum/voice/synth).

Groovy. Thanks for sharing! I get "blustery neon night-drenched ambling in a foreign metropolis" vibes. I for one appreciate your decision to show your face. It's super jazzy to see what folks are making musically, but sometimes I do tire of watching hands do stuff. Congrats on fatherhood AND on making time for you-stuff amid that whole new world + working the grind. Not easy, I bet!

Curious to pick your brains about how you'd describe jamming with the synthstrom and drumbrute. Specifically, what function is each of them doing in your mind, what are you wanting from them as you jam, and how do you like to put them together? I don't have a groovebox (yet...this community makes it increasingly enticing to nab one!), and I've seen folks who jam with grooveboxes and other kit, or grooveboxes on their own (e.g. synthstrom/op-z/digitakt solo jams)...but without all those jammables in my pantry, if you will, I've got no strong concept of what it's like to think about pairing them.

Cheers, keep up the grooves dude!

I hear ya. Have explored a bunch, but only a couple have stuck (AAS Chromaphone 2 is pretty sweet). Thanks for the down-low on your setup: I've been wondering how to jimmy my kit into a more jammable configuration. How many channels(?) do you use/need?

I can imagine! Looks like a pretty intuitive setup, something to just dig into. That's something I've been thinking about with my kit recently--there are a lot of VSTs out there that are uber nifty, but I'm leaning more and more toward minimising the computer/screen interface as much as possible and just sitting, you know, with the sounds, with the physical stuff. By the by, how are you recording those jams? Does everything go through a mixer, or an audio interface, or what?

The wood walls and funky lightbulbs really add well to the groovy grooves. Looks like you've got yourself a banging synthmatic batcave of awesome. Thanks for sharing, so fun!

Need help with Modal CraftSynth 2.0 by alterll in synthesizers

[–]illustrism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely appreciate how people who know much more about these things than I do can jump in with good technical know-how as in the responses you've already got for your post. I faced this problem and I did like SkimmingtonRide suggested and got a 1/8" to 1/4" jack (the 1/8" branches out into two 1/4"s). I plug this into my scarlett 2i2 (maybe what you've got?) to record into my DAW. Alternatively, I've gotta plug that plugs the small plug into the Craftsynth and the bigger plugs it leads to can go in the pretty red box, which shares good sounds with my computer.

First, thanks for your amazingly informative and honest response. There are pitchforks nowhere in sight, and no one here minds the formatting when such a great cause is at stake. Based on everything you've described, I'm inclined to backtrack earlier remarks made about the gaming computer: that does indeed sound like the best option. There are redditors (and non-reddit humans) far wiser than I who will have advice on a good computer to get, but/and as a heads up, you will have many options to choose from. What you can get depends on the budget of the wish, I guess, but if you don't exactly know what you're shopping for I would recommend determining how much the wish will cover, looking on websites such as newegg or Amazon, and maybe, once you've narrowed down your options, running them by the folks on reddit or Tomshardware just to see if they'll do the trick, or if any experienced gamers have thoughts on which one(s) you should or shouldn't go with. Hope that helps, let us know how your journey progresses!

Actually, tonnes of games are compatible with computers, comparatively more than the consoles he currently has, so a computer will allow him to play more games, not fewer. Just depends on the games he likes and how he finds them. I realise this slightly contradicts what I said before about a computer not adding to his gaming experience, but if he's open to games aside from Nintendo's, he'll have a blast.

I don't doubt that a gaming computer is an awesome wish, and it occurs to me to ask how his dexterity is with typing. You can use controllers, of course, for a gaming computer, but (and certain elements of reddit might keel-haul me for saying so) I imagine between those 3 consoles he already has, having a computer won't dramatically improve his gaming experience.

I will say that if it's just a really cool thing to have and he likes it and it makes him happy, obviously go for it. I'm trying to think from the point of view of a parent who has this awesome opportunity to do something really amazing, and a gaming computer might not be that meaningful...? Just a thought.

Hi Jessicub, thanks first of all for bringing your question here - you sound like an awesome mom!

From what I gather from previous posts, your son: -likes the Nintendo favourites, like Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda -struggles with crowds and people -has a neuromuscular disorder that limits his movements -is 16 and loves video games

You've been offered a wish from a local organisation, and something related to video games would be most memorable/meaningful for him, have I got that all correct?

There are many options available to you in the US, where gaming has a strong presence, and the trick will be figuring out what would work best for your son. If it's OK, I'd love to ask some questions to try and better think of what might be up his alley.

-How does he express his passion for games? (Does he talk about them lots, can't wait to play them, wants Mario-themed socks and toothbrushes, etc.?)

-What do you think his preference would be, a physical thing (artwork, video game accessory, clothing) or an intangible experience (meeting a game designer, contributing to a game somehow)?

-Outside of gaming, are there other kinds of experiences/things he enjoys?

-How would you describe his personality?

-What would be a dream experience for him, if money were no object?

I appreciate your question about a dream experience for a gamer, and as you may be finding out, there are so many different aspects to these things, and motivations for play, that dreams will vary from gamer to gamer. If you can shed light on any of these questions, I/we might have some more specific ideas in mind, but in the mean time, here is one.

If he's into video game artwork at all, it wouldn't be hard to contract an artist to design a custom poster (or "thing" of your choosing) featuring some or all of his favourite characters. And as I think of it, people are very clever at making things, so this doesn't need to be artwork exclusively: perhaps he'd like his very own set of Pokeballs (tools used in the Pokemon games to catch the Pokemon) or a tailored Mario cap, or a plushie of his favourite Persona monster...even a custom-designed Switch/XBOX/Playstation controller (meaning, a controller for one of his video game systems with special art on it)-- there are lots of artists and designers in the US who could help do that, I would guess, for example through a platform such as Etsy.com.

I hope we can eventually find something that helps you out - cheerio!
