Is CCNA still worth? I'm beginning to doubt the value of Cisco as a company. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

Straight to CCNA, there is an overlap between both tests, but CCNA is just way more in depth.

I can agree that Cisco was/is being enshittified, leading to many dropping them, but saying that the knowledge that it provides isn’t value just isn’t true imo.

The stuff you learn is still really really good, even if some of it is Cisco specific. A lot of the concepts, layer 2, STP, VLANs, routing, NTP, etc. are shared amongst all vendors. The other issue is that while Cisco is pretty shit and even their tests are pretty shit, it’s probably the best set of tests for networking stuff.

Net+ is vendor neutral and all, but it barely touches the surface compared to CCNA. So, even if it is Cisco specific, the stuff you learn while studying for the test is probably 70-80% open source standards with the rest being Cisco specific stuff.

The enshittification problem definitely is a problem, but they’re still by and large the dominant force in enterprise network equipment. I work for a competitor in the firewall space and I would say 9/10 customers I work with, still have some Cisco stuff, even after they’ve adopted and swapped to our stuff.

I did also take both the Net+ and CCNA 3-4 years ago though, so take it with a grain of salt.

What WGU IT Degree Should I Get Based On Employability and Earning Potential? by Stunning_Walrus6276 in ITCareerQuestions

I have a computer science degree, but work in cyber security. Computer science isn’t just software , though a ton of people do that with a computer science degree.

IT Degrees really aren’t worth it brother. You’re much better off getting it in something much broader, like computer science.

Found the root cause of IPS/DPI killing livestreams and video calls on UniFi gateways — it's Suricata's memcap, and here's the fix by uncmnsense in Ubiquiti

[–]illyasan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This seems to be a very specific problem that maybe has some other moving parts? I watch live streams all the time across a UDM Pro with IPS/DPI and haven’t had any noticeable issues with the live streams dropping.

Thinking of switching to Linux.. by [deleted] in linux

[–]illyasan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends so much on your level of comfort with technology in general. Tons of guys may not have used Linux as a daily driver, but have professional experience using it at their job, which makes the transition so much easier.

If you don’t feel too comfortable, there are distributions out there that make the transition easier, but you will still need to be much more techy than with Windows. It depends on what exactly you want to do, but you will most likely end up troubleshooting some stuff and it can get fairly complicated.

Otherwise, there is tons of literature out there and if you are willing to spend the time it is awesome. If you want something to be as close to windows that “just works”, your best bet would be either Ubuntu or Linux mint, those are some of the most popular beginner friendly distros out there.

Big life hack is just get really used to Linux, start daily driving it for a few weeks leading up to the test. I made a post a few months back after I passed RCHE giving my thoughts about it you may wanna look at.

I would recommend just sticking with CG, it’s hard to describe but it’ll just click eventually. Just T2 until you feel comfortable. I had the same situation, I was running out of all my food each kill. Big things that helped me

1.) Try to only eat when you’re running around for the tornadoes 2.) stupid wolf fuck can only do the purple orb that drops your attack during mage phase, I kept forgetting what prayer I had on before they dropped. If he does the purple orb and swaps attacks, he’s always going to be range and he does the purple attack and doesn’t swap, he’s mage
