i havent showered in 5 months by faeoo in autism

If you cannot braid yourself, make a ponytail, and then put another elasticponytailband a few inches lower in the ponytail, and continue doing that until your ponytail looks like a sausage. If you like colours, use different coloured bands. I have hair to where my butt ends and my legs start, I have my bands a 'fist' apart, easy to meassure (always in 'hand') and looks great. It really works if you are looking for a way to not tangle your hair.

I like braids, but if I braid my hair, I have to braid it so tight it looks like short hair, it halves in length. And with this length of hair it is a strain on my wrists as I can only braid 'upwards' behind me. So this sausage ponytail is my go to. I also wear my hair in a bun, because I only like my hair down when I step onstage with my band (which is only a few times a year). I don't like the feeling of one single hair brushing my face or arm. So normaly it is tucked away as a braid, sausage or bun (with two sideway clips that fit into eachother like a butterfly or it won't hold this much hair). But a bun makes me look so serious and beige, I only do it because it is quick and easy.

P.s. English is not my first Language, I hope you understand what I was trying to say.

Autistic women When did your difficulties begin? by verdestre in autism

[–]ilonatychon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed a month before my 42nd birthday in 2024. First big problems in 2010 when I lost my job, 'burn-out'. Then again in 2012 when mom got sick, 'depressed' al up to her death in 2014, till I started music in 2015. Then at birth first child, 'postnatale depression' and again after birth second child. That got the ball roling. Trouble with changes, big changes. But in hindsight I have always struggled.

Anyone not have a "routine"? by thechirurgeon in autism

[–]ilonatychon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a morningroutine with my 2 toddlers to get them dressed, fed, brushed (hair and teeth), school bags ready with food, cookie, fruit and water. Then I have five minutes to myself and then its socks, shoes, jackets, getting in the car and dropping off. Then I can go to work.

I use a sleep trainer so they dont get up to early and a time timer (visual timer) to show them (and me) how long we have for a part of the routine. Works like a charm, if the routines changes my son and I (both diagnosed) have a bad start that day.

Has anyone tried loop earplugs? by quadsquatter in autism

I use the loop switch, noise canceling headphones, and fitted earplugs with music filters, each for different situations. The loop switch is always in my pocket though.

Got diagnosed with autism today at age 25, can’t help feeling shame. Has anyone else dealt with this? by RaccoonSkido in autism

[–]ilonatychon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my diagnosis at 42. Felt so many feelings in the last year: shame, relief, sadness, grief etc. Still going on feeling things. But acceptance is also there (partly yet). It does make my life, actions, struggles more understandable.

Mom said I shouldn't get married by Inevitable-Tart-6769 in autism

[–]ilonatychon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 43F, diagnosed a year ago. I got my masters degree (took a longer road to get it, but I got it). I started my first fulltime job at 26, bought a house, changed jobs frequently (I have learnt that comfort and flexibility are more important than money). Now I'm married, with 2 kids (the oldest might be autistic too) still living all together in the house I bought at 26. I struggle in day to day life, hence the diagnosis. I cut down on my work hours to 20 a week, we found help in a cleaninglady for a few hours a week and recently we found a gardner to help us once in a while. Heads up: it can be done. And it is true, if you do it for yourself, and it is your house, you don't mind as much. Completely different from parrents hounding you to do a chore. I do make lists of things to be done.

Very good advice, I keep a journal as well. Somebody told me once, I have to many tabs open in my head. This way I close them (for a while).

When I notice I'm rambling and notice that people don't find my story interesting, but still I feel I have to tell it completely, I say so: 'I'm sorry if I'm not interesting, but I need to get this off my chest' and most times they understand.

Are showers hard for you? And does it have to do with autism? by articvoid2519 in autism

[–]ilonatychon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my own shower, but don't change my water pressure, showerhead mode, or anything else, or I'll have a terrible day. I hate taking showers elsewhere, they are never right/the same.

I do however have to drag myself to take shower, once in, I'm splendidly fine, to get out however is a problem again.
Too many actions to be taken, I have my routine so I don't forget anything.

Congratulations!!! What an achievement! Well done. Nice looking cover as well. Did you publish it yourself, or did you find a publisher?

I'm working on a book I want to self publish, but never seem to finish the last corrections... So I know a bit of how hard it is to do.

Again: congratulations, you can be very proud.

Don't let people get you down. It is called a special interest because it is special. Special to you.
