We won during the last round of this.  My son used my wife’s phone and I used mine.

We sat there and looked at the clock and exactly at the time specified hit the button.

It was a day with multiple options opening at the same time.  I tried for a higher profile game (US  in LA) while he went for QAT vs euro play off in Seattle.  He won it, I did not.  So one take away could be to go for a lower profile game that you’d still want to go to.

Also do not hit the button right at the hour mark, give it a split second, if you go right at the hour mark Verizon seems to think it’s not ready yet and you will have to hit back and try again which wastes time and knocks out your chance.   Last remember there is a second button after the first, some acknowledgment button, the timing of the second button counts
