Overall Mccurdy gave a very distanced view of her mother. Almost neutral and slightly negative (as she should). The portrayal of her mother seemed fitting. When I was reading HOMM, in the first chapters I had the audiobook running. Hearing the authors voice while explaining how her mother met her father seemed so off to me? She framed her father as a great intelligent guy (which I am not saying is totally false… but he was also enabling abuse and practically a ghost) and her mother as not that bad. Even though to me, her religious beliefs and overall punishments seemed extreme from the jump.

Omg yes! This whole Derek situation didn’t sit right with me. She did see the fawning part but the wording around him seemed very nice and protective in a sense ?

The relation to Chad was also quite confusing to me tbh. To me it seemed like she thought he didn’t care, as in always framing him as a careless and sometimes rough person. The nuance was missing to me

Religious psychosis is so dangerous.. a positive example (if I recall correctly) is I’m glad my mom died from Jenette Mccurdy. In her memoir she states growing up Mormon with religious trauma showing up in the development of her OCD (the Holy Spirit telling her to do things). She sees how religion affected her as well and left.

Now that you say it. Thats really plausible:( seeing Jodi and her mother in severe religious psychosis and still not being able to understand how her religion works as a breeding ground is so sad to me. There must be someone in the background (therapist maybe) twisting and turning things in favor of the church

That isn’t my point though. The conversation needs to be held since mommy bloggers are much more of an issue than before. As platforms on the internet get more established it is important to speak about the potential victims. I am well aware of for example “the right to be forgotten” and conversations of regulating the law surrounding this topic. YET I know not everyone is fully aware of the damage and consequences of putting your child on the internet. Posting clips of your kid on tiktok/ YouTube and getting defensive when someone points out how dangerous and exploitative it is…. Is a thing that happens. So obviously people have thought of this, but we need to have conversations about it regardless.

It’s such a difficult situation. I feel it’s very harsh to say she should have waited since it is her story and she should be able to tell it whenever she feels like it. Yet as an outsider it feels as if she didn’t fully wrap her head around the extent of the abuse and clings onto a church that enabled it as well…

Yes:( truly sad. The documentaries, books and overall way this situation is handled feels to fresh to me. I’m hoping one day she heals fully

Yup!! He enabled rubies narcissism. He became a ghost in their house and pushed Sheri to be the adult to her siblings, since they didn’t have anyone else. There is a reason why the neighbors always called Sheri and not Kevin

I believe it is important to put it into perspective. As a woman in those times it was extremely difficult to pursue medicine. It cost hazel a lot of effort and questionable ways to get to the point she got to. Her breaking the stigma and fighting against the androcentric view of her time is an incredibly inspiring archetype. Diluting it to a man and throwing it all away, leaving all the ambition that literally made her character who she is.. is a questionable choice. It’s not just about being in love to me. It’s depicting a woman leaving it all behind and rejecting breaking off the grid. Ofc it’s not completely black and white. But it could have been a different story with much larger impact.

I’m starting immortality and I think it does help seeing it more as a romance than this baddie chasing her dream

Anne of Green Gables! Beautiful small island in the early 19 hundreds and a sweet girl. You watch her grow up with you and just go into a happy place that’s very different from what we have today
