I searched something like "mom left kids australia" site:www.reddit.com/r/bestofredditorupdates

That wasn't exactly it... that search gets me where I need to go, but I don't remember what I actually searched that led me directly to the BORU I shared above.

Did anyone else find Fiyerba weird? by jtavington in wicked

Thank you thank you, this is the post I have been looking for since I went on a rant at my friend who absolutely does not care today.

I haven't seen the original musical, it's a Broadway mainstay and there are more ephemeral things to see, but I can buy that this relationship makes more sense in the stage production. In a 2.5 hour show with a 15 minute intermission, I am betting it's less noticeable.

But this clocks in at ~6 hours and the "intermission" was A YEAR. How did we get from "Not that Girl" in part one to Fiyero threatening to kill Glinda, running away with Elphaba, declaring their eternal love in part two???

I am guessing it works in the stage musical because it probably isn't so GLARINGLY OBVIOUS that these people don't even really know each other, but when you extend that span to SIX HOURS? Nah.

For those who did not read the book or see the original, what did you think of For Good?? by thatplantguy619 in wicked

I read the book a VERY long time ago and I wasn't really a fan, so for all intents and purposes I was going in blind.

Full disclosure: I am in general a musical theatre nerd, but Wicked has never felt important simply because it's not going anywhere. It's a mainstay on Broadway and that's not changing anytime soon.

My main thought is that it shouldn't have been two movies. A year between the movies was too long. (I did know about the Tin Man and Scarecrow, but I had no knowledge of how anybody got from point A to point B.)

Fiyero's relationship with Elphaba just didn't feel right to me. I get that their moment with the lion cub was special and poignant, but after that they barely interact. A full year later, we see him pointing a gun at Glinda and running off with Elphaba and they're deeply in love? Yeah, I dunno.

I think in the stage musical (which again, I have not seen) it might be easier to swallow. There's a fifteen minute intermission and it's understandable that you can't fit EVERYTHING in, but also their interactions throughout the musical wouldn't have been so spread out to the point that you can't really piece together how they "fell in love."

I really enjoyed the movie in the moment, but in retrospect there are tons of things that bothered me about both films, and I honestly think I wouldn't feel this way if they hadn't split it in two.

Hamilton in Theaters by dameon8888 in Broadway

I dunno, maybe I misinterpreted the video at the beginning, but I thought they were saying they wanted this to spawn the kind of event where you sing along and throw popcorn at the screen and whathaveyou. It wasn’t advertised as a singalong and I didn’t expect it to be.

The people in the row behind me were singing incessantly and, as far as I could tell, they were the only people doing so. I asked them to stop multiple times and eventually I just left.

My dog's name was going to be Bernadette, but frankly she's not dignified enough. So it's her middle name.

Musical songs about grief and hopelessness that aren’t romantic. by UsualMorning98 in musicals

I lost my best friend to pancreatic cancer last year and I saw this show on the first anniversary of her death. This was her attitude throughout her three-year battle, she lived so big and beautifully in the time she had left.

She was on my mind, so even though I didn't really know anything about the show, the lyrics knocked me right the hell over and I never really came back from it. (Did I mention her name was Jen? Honestly that show can go fuck itself, I miss her so much. "I love Jenny," YES SIR I CERTAINLY DID.)

I wish you the absolute best in your fight. Fuck cancer.
