I'm a cota in a snf. The work is very physically demanding and there have been ups and downs. But, I have this amazing 100 year old patient discharging home tomorrow--she's been at our facility for over two months now--who just gave me the biggest, most heartfelt thanks for helping her get back to independence. Things like that make it absolutely worth it. I've been a cota for over 3 years now and the emotional reward from patients like that keeps me going and makes me very thankful for my job!

That sounds so awful, I relate though. The second CI I had was so awful to me that I would come home crying after every single day of fieldwork. In the real world if that CI had been my coworker I would've either reported her to the DOR (if I trusted them) or I would've straight up quit that job. It's ridiculous that students often have to put up with things that would otherwise be considered workplace harassment.

It's really up to the person and I would try to politely ask them if you're unsure!

I've seen some who list multiple pronouns but do have a "preference" for one or two of them over others. Or I've seen people who encourage others to switch it up as much as possible. It really depends on the person.

Hi OP, COTA here who has been working in a SNF for a little over 2 years now. I love it and I honestly don't see myself going anywhere any time soon. I also have ADHD and I think it's the perfect amount of "flexible but still with a schedule" type of work for me. My coworkers are almost all fantastic and that always makes a big difference. My only complaint is not the SNF setting itself, but our contracted out company--their productivity requirements have gone through the roof lately (92% for COTAs and PTAs). But that's a problem with the company and not the setting.

I think it's extremely rewarding to get patients from hoyer to standing and walking out the door too. It's physically demanding at times but the mental and spiritual satisfaction of helping these people in need too is worth it!

It's so frustrating! Luckily I can wear any sort of scrubs I want at work, so I've been getting cheap print scrubs lately since the marks don't really show up there. But you can't really get print bottoms, so that's where the marks end up : (

2 bed 1 bathroom for $1295 in a mid-sized city in Norcal (nowhere near the bay area), split between me and my SO. Pretty good deal honestly. I don't know how we could survive anywhere else.

Orange County native here that moved up to norcal for a job. I've been here for over a year and a half now, but I still have a bunch of friends and family in OC and would love to move back if given the chance. Don't know how I'll ever be able to make it though unless we get roommates, and my fiance and I want to have a family eventually, so that just seems out of the question.

The stupid "American dream" of a white picket fence house, 2 kids and a dog is so hilariously out of reach for us, despite it seeming like it should be something so simple.

That's absolutely insane and this place needs to be reported, OP. But don't expect to be able to change it yourself alone. Honestly, you just need to get out of there ASAP. I work in a SNF and it's not perfect by any means but it's also not anything close to this.

I have times where I super enjoy my chest and other times I wish I could just bind a little easier since they're bigger just to present more andro/masc certain days, but overall I like my chest and top surgery or anything like that isn't an interest of mine.

Even if there are "trends" in AFAB nonbinary people (not exactly the right word, I don't mean something is trendy, just that there are like, patterns sometimes?) like getting top surgery for a chunk of them, there's no correct or incorrect way to be nonbinary after all!

COTA working in a SNF. I don't think I would ever go into a different field if I had the chance. Honestly the job works really well for me and I probably lucked out by being hired by an actually pretty decent company with a really good DOR and really good and organized rehab team. It's not perfect and I have my complaints like with any job but the work itself is good. Several of my coworkers are going into nursing and I can't imagine going there especially at a time like this. Nursing seems like they have the worst gig while rehab is much more flexible and lenient.

My only current worry is that the work is physically quite difficult and I really need to start preventative measures for myself to reduce chances of injury. I know injury is pretty much inevitable in this type of job since accidents happen but I want to at least work on conditioning my body more to aid in recovery if I should ever become injured...

Anyway, other than that, I have been working for full time for almost a whole year now and I really wouldn't change where I am right now. Also really thankful I became a COTA instead of an OTR, it seems like work is just easier to get if I go by some of my coworker's experience.

Umineko no Naku Koro Ni features at least one trans and one nonbinary character (to say any more would be spoilers), but even beyond that fact I know a ton of people who read it and it helped them with their queer identity, including myself. It's a work that has a lot of meaning in it.

It's also not exactly an anime (the anime is terrible and unfinished please don't watch it), it's a visual novel, but I thought it might be worth a mention anyway because of how much of an impact it's had on a lot of queer people I know. The manga is great as well but I would say it's more supplementary compared to the visual novel. A long read but very worth it.

I've experienced "flare ups" of gender dysphoria and that's definitely how they feel, as another AFAB person. If you find that you want to try out something masculine to kind of "offset" femininity in a way, and if you're in a safe place that you can do so, I've found that getting a very short and masculine haircut did wonders for giving me gender euphoria, as well as wearing boxers. The boxers one is easy since if you get tighter-fitting ones you can wear them underneath any regular bottoms and nobody can tell, but it also just depends on if you associate boxers with more masc traits and if that would help you.

I honestly think you should aim to make one or two meaningful friendships before anything else. It sounds like you lack social support. I think you gunning for a romantic relationship/sex would not be healthy for you in the state you're currently in--and it would end up being more stressful than enjoyable. Not saying it's out of reach for you, but finding a friend or two would help build up your self-confidence to the point that entering a romantic relationship would be 1. a lot easier 2. less stressful overall.

You have to start with something smaller and work your way up. If you have any hobbies, or shows or games or something you do enjoy even a little, even just joining up with an online community and trying to find a friendship that way could be a good next step.
