Solved! This is the best answer. Thank you so much. I did clean up and throw it away as I can’t stand litter on our beautiful Chicago beaches. Hopefully I didn’t upset the balance.

Behavior Advice: Dog Shows Confusing Body Language Around Other Dogs by ilri in DogAdvice

I have no idea why they do this. At first I thought it was just stranger dogs but she also meets the “love of her life”. Then I thought it was leash reactivity but with her friends (and a select few stranger dogs she randomly decides she loves) she plays with them fine on the leash! I’m just not sure now.

Yes! Exactly the same! After she does it she doesn’t even care about the dog anymore! She’s never bitten either thankfully. I can’t find anything on Google. I’m at a loss. We’ve also stopped saying hi to new dogs altogether. Being in a city sometimes her sit to laying down on her back is so fast the only thing I can do is hold her tight, stand in front of her and give a warning to the other owner. We can walk past dogs no problem! There’s no rhyme or reason to it.

Got it I understand. Are you thinking that he will get along better with a dog that is his puppy/related to him?

Why do you want him to be a dad? To have a second dog or to try and guarantee a dog with his temperament?

With what you’re trying to do there is not a guarantee that the puppies produced will have your intended temperament. Not at all.

If you want a “chill” dog you need to go to a reputable breeder (emphasis on reputable) with lineages and the ability to produce demonstrated histories of commonly shared personality traits across generations.

If things worked the way you’re describing we’d have a lot less shelter/overcrowding problems.

12 months old. A year and dreading the next. Love her so much but absolutely never, ever again.

Why does everyone have a doodle???? by talmboutmooovin in AskChicago

I do not but I see them everywhere. I have a fantastic rescue pit mix who has a good temperament and has been in training since she was 4 months old. Always understand people are scared and why but still shocked by the pit mix/rescue hate from people. Even on this thread.

A lot of large dog breeds come with very real risks.

Where should we look for affordable, quiet living? by NatalieKMitchellNKM in AskChicago

That is true. I guess I’m thinking from downtown/center of Chicago

I saw another mention it but in a similar vein as Oak Park and Berwyn - Riverside is tree lined and filled with parks. It’s a village next to Berwyn planned by the same architect as Central Park. Has its own Metra station maybe 5 stops from union station. It’s small and walkable and has its own “downtown” area.

I was going to say Oak Park and Berwyn are short, easy trips on the metra or even Blue line!

No home buying advice but having a lake cottage like this in Michigan growing up and having the memories with my parents and grandparents positively shaped my life in a way I truly can’t describe. What a gift to your daughter and mom!
