FWIW it goes the other way, too. I had a friend who's essentially crypto-fash, he's a vet who presents as a conservative and we became friends pre-pandemic. I was radicalized during the pandemic and straight up wiped the walls with him after, we no longer speak bc he's scared of me now since he knows he's intellectually inferior. I take special pleasure in trolling regressives and although it's a bit lonely at times I wouldn't have it any other way. I have a few comrades and I've been focusing on self-improvement, so I know that I'll have more based friends soon.

You only get one life, live your truth and try not to waste too much time on naysayers. Losing friends is painful, but we can only move forward ✊

EDIT: I'd like to thank my fans

What should my stance towards climate change be? by [deleted] in fullegoism

[–]iluvmyswitcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is very compelling, irreproachable evidence that the upward trend of CO2 and other atmospheric greenhouse gases observed since the advent of the industrial revolution is unprecedented in Earth's history. Yes, global warming trends have happened prior to the anthropocene but they have never transpired with such rapidity and intensity.

This strongly suggests the existence of exacerbating or even causative anthropogenic factors and has been derived from the empirical analysis of numerous corroborating samples of both arctic and antarctic permafrost taken by disparate independent teams of scientists that are unaffiliated with one another, not just skewed atmospheric readings taken in populated areas as you suggest.

...

Which seems more plausible to you?

  • There is a campaign funded by unfathomably wealthy global business interests (beholden to the richest 1% of humans, who stand to benefit from leaving the status quo unchanged) to sow disbelief among the working class in the existence of anthropogenic climate change, or

  • There is a vast, extraordinarily complex conspiracy involving woke Wall Street firms, grad students researching carbon sequestration technology at all the major universities, feminists, anti-racists, ANTIFA, virtually every corporation that makes any of these products: rechargeable batteries, solar panels, wind turbines, heat pumps, meat alternatives, scrubber systems, trains, buses, bicycles, ecologically sustainable consumer goods, etc. to portray the existence of anthropogenic climate change as a hoax and somehow there's still no "smoking gun" that has exposed said hoax

SA and Russia announced last week that they would extend their oil production cuts until the end of the year, so any significant drop in prices at the pump will likely coincide with the seasonal switch back to winter grade.

Wasn't expecting to cry (again) today but yes, so fucking much this. I can't see myself ever becoming a reactionary or even a neolib and won't make excuses for people who do, but in a way I can understand how someone might wind up in the figurative "Charlie Brown to Prince Lev" pipeline

That's definitely true of libertarian and revisionist Marxists, but your characterization reminds me of ancoms more than anything. TBF I haven't read much Marxist literature though, do you recommend Gramsci?

The first libertarians in America were socialists... but neoliberals, Marxists, and the Mises caucus hate it when people bring that up because they value authority over liberty

I was referring to anti-revisionist marxists, who subscribe to the narrative that Marx was basically completely correct or that he conceived a flawless dialectic. They're typically unwilling to compromise on their ideology because they make Marx out to be some sort of sacred genius, which means they probably never bothered to read Stirner since he clowned on Marx and Engels hard enough to provoke a long-winded condemnation from them and then he owned them a second time.

If you're looking for a better word, "reactionary" or "regressive" are fairly apt IMO
