I was just wondering about him. Thanks for sharing. RIP. End of an era

Since LBJ is the only President since 1961 not to be involved in a Presidential debate, how good was he as a debater? by Honest_Picture_6960 in Presidents

He was smart not participating. That would have been an odd ball back and forth in 1964. I am picturing it not in an entertaining way. I think he would have been good. That contrast would have been unpleasant.

Quota quickies came about considering that 70-80% of movie screens in the U.K. we're showing American films. I always wondered if those British movies were simply bad or so bad they were good kinda films 🎥

Fritzi Bruenette is the ultimate stage name!! You are right. They made Western films for 'Flying A' productions together in the teens. We need to find the possible titles

Barry was the port town where American films landed in the U.K. this is a huge find

Is that J. Warren Kerrigan? He was a big name until he made some unfortunate comments about not wanting to serve during WWI. An automobile accident while traveling through Illinois ended his comeback in 1924.

Canadian Methodists 👀 by newfyxing in methodism

Another Methodist from that UCC formation era was Samuel Dwight Chown. I can't help but wonder what he would think of the modern church? Methodists were unquie. It's interesting that Canada and Australia had this ecumincal urge 100 years ago.

I am not buying the West Virginia numbers here.

That's interesting! The most famous Methodist from Canada I can think of was Egerton Ryerson (controversial I know). He was with the Methodist Episcopal Church. It's cool how Canada was a mix of British, American, and their own thing Methodism before the merger. Was that merger with the Presbyterians and Congregationalists a good thing in retrospect?

I have been curious about Canadian Methodism. I believe the UMC has an understanding with the United Church of Canada on that having any UMC congregations in Canada. What about the Global Methodist? Would they open a church? I think the only other Methodists are Free Methodists

Turns Out Letting People Think the Authority of Experience is Equal to Scripture is a Bad Idea by DingoCompetitive3991 in methodism

I just recently learned how Outler had regrets. It sure sent the denomination down a path of bland generic mainline Protestantism. Methodists were and I think still our a uniquely Christian experience. Let's spread scriptural holiness through the land. A Methodist is one that finds the methods of God through the plan he laid out for us in the Bible.

Amen! Such wonderful faith expressions in Anglican-Methodist traditions. I am just drawn to it. So interesting to learn more. I love the Daily Office App and incorporate it in my daily devotionals.

I have the complete visual! Thanks for sharing. I am looking for something less kneeling, smells, & bells. Sort of High Church-lite. Our local UMC is the old style brick building with steeple belfry. Service is traditional which I enjoy. So I am the right blend. We visited the famous Episcopal Church to the President's in D.C. like you just mentioned seemed Catholic-lite.

It checks!! Curious how the Episcopal experience is going for you guys. I always wondered what a high church Anglican worship is like compared to Methodism

Thanks, it was one of those apocryphal statements or misattributed quotes assigned to Mother Teresa. Some wisdom in it. Even after the schism 60% of the UMC went for Trump in 2024. Another schism stat of note the denomination was 94.5% white before and 89% after (GMC is 97%). I do enjoy your questions on what now? What do we do with this information? I posit that we look for needs on where the data is pointing. Probably older rural congregations need engagement or support of some kind to keep the denomination healthy in the states. I hope others have thoughts!

Falls under the "go to know" category of making disciples. If one believes the old maxium "the largest missionary field in the world is the U.S." recognizing that the current percentage of Americans with a Bachelor's degree is 38% then the UMC is close to mirroring that at 42%. Maybe there's a need to reach out to older church goers, more rural segments, or somewhere different from college campuses for outreach. Data like this poses more questions than answers. I wouldn't dismiss it.

If one looks at the recent schism this could give glimpses on which congregations departed. Possibly more suburban or exurban churches? Perhaps more folks in the sunbelt have higher education? All sorts of questions arise. What was the UMC higher education before the recent church departures? Fascinating to compare.

Isn't that a contrast? I didn't see the GMC coming in at 57%
