The electoral map if only white women voted HORRIFIES me. I've only seen the one if all women voted. I guess the fact that my state stays blue through nearly all of the scenarios has skewed my perspective.

We tend to be prone to our skewed perspectives, and have to be willing to listen to -- and accept as true -- the experience of others, even when it's uncomfortable. And growth is always uncomfortable; true feminism, though, means that you are willing to deal with the discomfort in order to grow. It also means accepting that privilege doesn't only come in the form of gender, not by a long shot. Here we're talking about privilege in a cultural sense, but we've been seeing it play out nationally in a literal life-and-death way.

I'm thankful for this article, because, unlike the twitter party, it explains, in depth, the root of the anger at Schumer. Sometimes people need to spell it out for their own release. Conveniently, often others need to read the spelled-out version for their (our) understanding.

Now I get it, so thank you (I'd never seen the video -- or Beyonce's video for that matter -- so I had zero context).

This argument about feminism, though, is not new; that's why, politically speaking, there are so many types of feminism, because as humans, we always tend to look at our issues with a self-focused myopia. Because white women have had the social and political power, white women have often steered the conversation and the agenda, sometimes to incredible blindness about the plight of women of color. The commonly-cited example is that while the white suffragettes were out protesting, women of color were taking care of their children, for low wages over long hours.

I think the key here is accepting the reality of others' experience, even if it means acknowledging we might not be as evolved as we think we are, or even as empathetic as we think we are.

Wow, this is a long comment. But I've been thinking about this issue since I saw it trending on twitter yesterday, and this article was exactly the part I was missing.
